Idle Problems
Guys, I got a little 93 Civic Hatchback (not sure what model - help with that would be appreciated too). It has an alternating idle. It revs between about a grand, and about 1500 rpms. I don't know what's making it do that. The check engine light is on, and the codes that it's throwing are 41 and 3. I believe they are the MAP sensor and the O2 sensor. My O2 sensor is a single wire, and I'm not sure what to do about that. I've checked some of them out, and all of them seem to be the multi-wire (4-wire).
What should I do? Where can I get a single wire O2 sensor, and do I need one? Have you guys had the alternating idle revs, and what did you do about it? It's just a little gas getter to drive on the side, so I'm not looking to drop a whole lot of money in it, just looking to make it run a little better. Thanks for the help in advance.

But where do I go about getting a single wire O2 sensor? I do want the OEM one, but I haven't found any place that has anything but the multi wire one. Would it work though?

should set you straight.</TD></TR></TABLE>Well a new o2 should be purchased once you know it isn't the o2 wiring. But that wont straighten him out, the MAP sensor is the culprit for the surging idle. Check the wiring and vac connections at the MAP sensor. To find the model you have look at your vin number. The 8th character will denote the model:
4 or 5 is a CX
6 is a DX
7 is a VX
8 is a Si
9 is a Si with ABS
The next question is, do you have a multimeter for testing electronics? If not get one and I'll run you through the MAP sensor troubleshoot.
