What to Buy?
Ok I've had a 600 for some time now and i need something bigger, my friend has a CBR1000RR and I rode that, it was amazing, my cousin has an R1 and i rode that, also amazing, my choices are my cousins R1 for 7 grand or or a CBR1000RR out of the crate for 12 grand, which would you pick?

His point was that you likely don't need something bigger but rather want something bigger because your friend has a liter bike.
All that said I can't say I ever plan on buying a crate bike.

yep, especially when its essentially half the price of the honda and they are very close in performance. I also like the looks of the R1 over the 1000rr

R1. So you have an excuse when you're still slower than the 1000RR.

What kind of riding do you do? If you're just riding around on the street, occasional canyons, a literbike is for you. Be sure to get full coverage for your bike and health insurance for yourself. A 600 (or 750) is perfect for canyon-carving and trackdays.

I want a fast good handling bike that has absolutely no problem picking the front tire off of the ground, I know a R6 or a 600rr will do that but i don't want to waste the time and money buying an R6 and then getting bored with it and then up grading.

A 1988 Honda nt650 hawk has no problem getting the front wheel off the ground, neither does a gas gas or ANY trials bike. You have mistaken this board for a macho, testosterone, look at the size of my **** driven forum.

Even if you had a new ZX-10R or a GSX-R1000, I know some girls that'll smoke your ignorant *** on a track.
If you start on a 1000cc, the chances of you progressively learning and improving to that of a new rider on a smaller capacity bike, is severly against you. And the chances of you killing yourself on a single vehicle accident (ie, rider error) is pretty damn high.
99.9% of the times, the very best riders that you see started on something small.

I've been riding dirt bikes from the age of 9, i have a 600 and have been riding it for a while now, I know how to ride and I'm not just going out to buy a 1000 to say i have a 1000, if any of you have been on a 1000 you might know why someone would want to have one, no matter what size bike you have or even a car you need to know your limits and that's what most people forget, that's why every other day there is a kid in the newspaper dead in a crash.
This the problem with forums, one simple question turns into a 20 post argument, I was leaning for the R1 but I wanted to see what others would go for.

If you already knew this would happen (I think everyone does), then why even bother posting the question?

i had the 04' ZX10-R last year and i have a 600RR now, personaly i like my 600RR better for my needs. yea 105mph in 1st gear is sweet, so is the 189 "indicated" top speed, but where are you really going to do all that? ive done it only a couple of times just to say "i did that" but no real gain. i dont look at it like a downgrade but a upgrade in using 100% or close to of the bike on a track/canyon. i have only had 2 600s in my 8 yrs of riding (F3 and my RR) the rest have been liter bikes (except for the 748R and gsxr750) cant really say i want to go back to a liter bike either

Isn't that annoying?
But seriously, get whatever you want. I can't personally comment on either since I've never ridden them, but you can't really go wrong. The R1 is cheaper though....

Is 7k really a good price for an 03 R1?
I thought they were 8,XXX new around that time anyways?
It all depends on how your cousin rides. If he babies it then it might be ok, if he wheelies the heck out of it and beats on it you probably don't want it.
Just a side note: Everyone I know of that stunts an R1 complains that it is not a good trick bike. The BP is extremely high and it is very choppy on wheelies. (Unless you are doing flyby wheelies) where you are hovering off the ground a few inches/feet and arent balancing the wheelie.
That being said most stunters are going form liter bikes to 600's. F4i being one of the most sought after bikes.....
If you wanna wheelie just get a crf50f and be done with it. That's what I did. It's too expensive to wad up your streetbike.
