I have an OBD I LS motor in my 97 GSR. I cant smog the car and I constantly throw a CEL. Is there a way to remedy this (convert motor to obdII?) without having to swap out the motor?

Go to autozone and find out WHY the CEL is on. They read ECU codes for free. Then you will know what the actual problem is.
AND WHY DO YOU HAVE A GSR WITH AN LS IN IT???!!!

Theft, and I wasnt covered by insurance, so I picked up a motor from my yard and plopped it in. It throws a CEL because of using an OBDI ecu in an OBDII car.

That doesnt solve my problem. I still wont be able to smog it. Thats why I want to either connvert the motor (if possible) to OBDII or the cars wiring to OBDI

You said you have a conersion harness, and that wont work. It would still be an OBDI motor and it would fail smog. I need a way to convert the actual motor to OBDI, not a conversion harness.
I believe you have some of your information a little mixed up. It's not throwing a code because of an OBD-1 ECU in an OBD-2 car, in fact without a conversion harness there's no way to even put the OBD-1 ECU in the car, and when you do get it in there it's going to be less likely to throw codes (the beauty of OBD-1). If you do indeed have an OBD-1 computer in it, it's coding due to a component failure or wiring issue of some sort. In addition, in Cali it isn't legal to put an older motor in a newer car anyway so I wouldn't be fooling around with trying to make this one work, I'd be finding a newer motor.

Well I know I cant put an older motor in there, im just looking to alternatives to having to buy another one. Its far too costly to swap in another motor of the same thing, so Im trying my damndest to not have to. I do have an OBDI ecu running, and it has a plug just hanging out of it.
