Default Alright boys and girls

Here is an initial cut of the scattered Miata. Try not to publicize this version much though, because it's got dropped frames. I will have a smooth copy up by the weekend hopefully. The machine we were using was horridly slow. It's a sheer wonder it pulled as fast as it did.

heh, i don't think he realized mazdas were I4s until later that night It's funny how brief the video is, in my head we were on that grass for like 40 seconds and i felt every twitch where the car might have spun...but warren was a zen master of car control. You can see the tip of my thumbup when we're back on pavement and blasting on our way

There was some damn 2nd gen RX-7 smoking up the entire grid, hence the commentary on rotaries, and I'll stand by it

Aleph, you must have been crapping your pants as you went on a ride through the grass.

I had noticed both the white RX-7, which was smoking a LOT, and the miata (which was smoking, but not as bad) earlier that morning. From the video, it looks like the RX-7 must be right in front of the Miata in grid. All that smoke wafting to the right in front of the Miata can't be coming from the engine. Also, you can see an glimpse of white through the Miata window.

Warren, we think you're crazy enough by your car, we can't go spreading the rumor that you can't tell a Miata from an RX-7

I used to just assume that people burning copious amounts of oil must know about it. Maybe I'll start mentioning it.

Mike <-- who lost some track time because of the Miata, but isn't upset about it.

Warren - can I borrow some of your footage? I want to check out your line through a couple of corners (end if back straight in particular).

I can't give away all my secrets! Actually, that's fine, but I don't have that digitized yet. Hopefully by this weekend.

Heh, maybe it's because i had a ride with warren earlier in the day without incident (which is kind of paradoxical, because if you've ridden with warren the whole thing seems like an incident), but i wasn't scared at all....if anything, i was glad he was driving. Once we hit grass, time slowed down, because i felt every little direction change, and the car felt like it wanted to spin pretty badly, but warren was feeding it the kind of subtle throttle that only he and god know about (to steal a phrase from Going Faster), and, as evidenced by the thumbup at the end, i was just damned impressed with his decisiveness and control. Actually, i hope i learned something, in case it ever happens to me...i'd probably be cheezed off if my shiny black R were coated in oil tho, i'm such a prima donna

I don't understand the Miata's line through 1, though, if anyone would care to explain it. Are Miata lines that different?
No.

I don't know why they call that turn T1/2. It really should just be T1. You don't really apex it a second time.

I have lots of experience lawnmowing! I spent alot of time in jr. high school mowing lawns with a fabulous red and silver Honda lawnmower.
Back then I was doing it for money. Who knew that I was going to end up paying to go lawnmowing when I grew up? Funny too, because it's a lot more fun now than it was back then.

Travis with the really slow Miata.....

Geez Warren, you had a Honda mower? Bling Bling yo! I spent a good chunk of time around the same age doing the same thing albeit with slightly less "tite" equipment. Push mowers RULE

~Chris, who did find out that dad's generic riding mower would hit about 15-20 mph down the steep hill in the backyard if you hit the brake/clutch pedal just right so it disengaged the transmission and didn't engage the brakes... Probably one of the few riding mowers that has actually trail-braked and rotated.

PS- Warren, should've told the Miata driver "whoa man, your engine really blew up! look what you did to my car! the side's all wrinkled!" Just kidding!

Mike <-- who lost some track time because of the Miata, but isn't upset about it.

All the time lost in that group due to the Miata cleanup was re-added into that group during the last session of the day, btw.

PS- Great vid.

Hehe, warren, after you got back on track, you were late for the apex in turn 3. turnabout is fair play (but i'll let it slide just this once....)

Warren, Do you have any video of the couple laps you did in the advanced group? I was in the PY type R. I know you were behind me for a little and I wanted to see if my line was ok. I have video from the in car and it felt good, but sometimes feeling good and going good are miles apart! Thanks man, I wish I could have meet you my friend said you are a really cool guy.

I ran out of tape for those sessions. It was a very nice Sony MiniDV, but I only borrowed 1 tape, which is about an hour. I normally don't make an effort to watch other folks' lines unless it is dramatically different.

I snuck into the adv group to get a few laps in w/ Chris Schanzel riding shotgun to get his input. I did it again for the last session too, so I could pack up early. I'll try to put up a video of a clean lap.

Thanks man, I wish I could have meet you my friend said you are a really cool guy.
Fooled another one!
