Default Prices and places on b18C5 (im gettin differin' #s)

Ok, I've been looking around for a place to buy a b18C5 and I've been told that it will cost me about 3k for the engine including shipping.

My brothers got a friend that has already done an engine swap in his Mitsubishi and in his truck, so he has experience in this. So for labor I just gotta pay him in beer and he'll help me do it.

My question then, is how much should I TRULY expect to spend in order to get everything I need for a b18c5 swap into my 92 EG?

DO I only need the engine, or will I need a new tranny, or other stuff? I currently just have the stock D-series engine in my Si.

Also, where is a reliable place to buy the engine & parts? I'm hoping to get one with no more than 30k miles on it.

Ohhh good lord, $5,000!?

Gggrrreeeeaaatt, well looks like I'm going to be saving up much longer than I thought I would be.

Yeah a while back I was surfing around for parts on different JDM sites and it looked like most SUPPOSED , assuming they aren't fakes, b18c5s that I found were around the high 2ks and shipping was like 300 or 400 bucks.

I'll check out the site you suggested. Maybe I will invest in a new exhaust and some other stuff first, since it's going to take me a while to save up 5,000 bucks.

if indeed you do have a d right now dont put things(ie. exhaust) on because they will not be compatible with b-series

I would say out of 99% of the parts he could do to the D series before the B the exhaust is the most compatible

Oh ok, I didn't know that.

Well any suggestions on what I should do in the mean time? Otherwise I'm going to be sitting on a stock 92' for almost a year. I've got cold air intake is all... but as far as I'm concerned there is no difference performance wise after putting that in.

Would it be a good idea to invest in maybe some better springs? or maybe new brakes? I could also put a few hundred bucks in the interior just to tide me over while I save up cash.

Are there any less expensive swaps that are worth getting?

I don't want to spend $3,500 on an engine swap, when I can spend $5,000 for a bad *** one that is a lot better.... but if I can get a nice engine for 3,500 thats not too much off from a b18, then I can go for that.

I'm not real interested in street racing or getting serious times at the track, I just want my civic to have some power. The engine right now has got about 170,000 miles on it and its not quite as quick as I would like.

You get what you pay for. If you are gonna save that much money might as well save up for a K20 swap then.

Since when can you do a K series for 5g's?

As for the 5000 for something so much better thant a 3500 dollar engine, ask yourself if 20whp is worth 1500 dollars to you?

Yeah that's true.

Would I be better off going for a Greddy Kit then? I've always been told that putting a turbo on a stock engine is stupid because you can't get as much out of it... is that true?

Where can I find a kit for around $1,500?

Honestly if it was me, Id buy a JDM GSR swap with the LSD transmission and upgrade that thing. Seems to me like you want a swap and the itr isnt THAT superior over a GSR. Then you can supercharge it or turbo it or whatever you wanna do, but youll already have the swap

Hmm, yeah sounds good. How much would I be looking at cost-wise for a swap like that?

Oh wow, yeah. I can get a pretty decent swap for only about mid $2k. Thats not bad.

What would you guys suggest for someone that has never done a swap and is kinda low on $$$? The H22 sounds like a good deal, especially since I've got someone that can do the swap.

Hey, if I got one of these cheaper engines would I be able to get enough power out of a turbo for it to be worth getting?

I'm liking the h22 as far as price goes and also for its hp and torque. I'll check some of the guides on here about the h22.

How much you guys think it would cost to put in the H22 that I listed and a turbo on it?

you get what you pay for

for a usdm b18c5 with decent mileage expect to pay at least $5,000 when all said and done

for a 98+jdm spec itr motor, expect to pay a little more

you get what you pay for, if you want a high mileage old ragged on motor then yea 3k might work, but for a low mileage good condition R swap with all the **** you need to make it work expect to pay at least around $5k

i probably spent around 6k total for my 99 jdm ITR swap w/20k miles, after all the extras to make it fit and fuel management ect.

B18 is nice to have. I have a b18c in my civic and the torque is nice to have. Also expect to make alot of unplanned trips to the auto parts store for parts and tools. The cost kind of depends on the experiance you have and how many tools you got in your box. Also allow a fair amount of time for you to get everything replaced on the new engine before you swap it in cause it will save you time in the long run.

Like I really wish I had installed the usdm oil pump and skunk2 mani on my b18 before I swaped it in but thats the way things go.

keep in mind that the 92 civics were prewired for vtec so it should be plug n play as long as you get a obd1 engine harness for the vtec
