Default How much MTF (manual transmission fluid) for a SOHC tranny?

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=670463 says 1.8 - 1.9 while https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=626397 says 2.5

Anyone know for sure how much to use?

right, your "full" of it.........

blowing axles seals..........how are you gonna do that?????

If there was a buildup in pressure, it would vent out the top of the tranny.

For example, a 94 DX tranny that was ran with 3-5-4 quarts of hypoid gear oil.............

one that was ran low on fluid, cooking the plastic bearing cages causing the discoloration above the fluid level.........

so overfilling is recommended (i.e. improves shifting) or does it make no difference?

go re-read, those are liters,

My numbers above still stand correctly..........

Overfilling is NOT needed, nor suggested, but it won't do any harm.

mista bone, could you write a HOWTO on rebuilding SOHC trannys? Or at least a walkthrough of what each of the inernal parts does?

That'd be nice... I'll be swapping my dx tranny for an ex and I'd like to tear down my dx for learning purposes...so when it comes time for an ex rebuild I can do it myself.. might throw an LSD and do custom gearing, etc.

Fill until it starts dripping from the fill hole.

Honda MTF only! Mine took 1.8 quarts also, no more grinds and good smooth shifting.

Change fluids every 10,000 miles or anytime before that.
Most transmission fluids will do just fine. Kinda sad if you think you can
only use Honda brand transmission fluid.

actually i was going to get synchromesh but my 160k z6 has no grinds at all so i am not concerned about getting something else, plus anything with the word Honda on it makes me feel all warm inside

Change tranny fluid around 25K miles. Maybe sooner if you constantly rev high.

Autoparts stores will just tell you to use engine oil. Mostly that is what MTF is. Honda "supposedly" uses another additive for lubrication and stuff in their fluid at the dealership.

GM Friction Modified (at GM dealers, expensive) is good if you already have a slight grind, it will usually get rid of it unless its excessive.

There is a very detailed tranny overhaul with many, many, many pictures if you search. Its for B series but its the same thing.

I just fill until it comes back out the fill hole.

Some use the VSS to fill it but to me, thats even more involved to get the VSS out.
