Ok my im running a D16z6 in a Hatcback DX 92'.... you shouldnt have to wire the vtec all the way to the ecu correct?... but anyways... i put in the VTEC Soli. and the VTEC Oil pres. slot wires and bolted the ground wire... i get my car up too 5,200 rpms no VTEC... anyone got any suggestions?..ive tried switching the wires, rebolting the ground somewhere else but nothing =[

You might not be giving enough information, but let me ask for more info since what you wrote don't make sense. You are running a D16z6 on a non-vtec DX, meaning came with a non-vtec ECU. So my question is, did you put in an ECU with a vtec capability (for example P28)? If not, how are you controlling your vtec solenoid? A manual switch? Where are you connecting the oil pressure wire? Maybe if you can answer those questions, someone might be able to help you out. The short answer though is, it could be a lot of things why the vtec is not coming on.

 

sorry... ok here is everything.... Im running a D16z6 in my Hatchback DX 92... the ecu is a p28 and has the original wiring harrness that came in the car(which means 92 civics came with pre-wired vtec)... the VTEC was never been hooked up... soo i bought the plugs for the oil and vtec soli....... i plugged in the VTEC oil wiring to the wiring harness as well as the VTEC soli. wire. im 100% sure it is in the right slot ... since there were three covered with rubber pieces... i i followed the wires back to the ecu... A4 is correctly connected to the VTEC soli. wire and D6 is correctly connected to the VTEC Oil Sensor. the ground is bolted down as well.... any suggestions?

MY VTEC AINT WORKING!!!... but everything is wired correctly... i need help!!.... read above!

 

I thought only the 94+ models were pre-wired for VTEC. I may be wrong, but I'm sure I heard that either 93+ or 94+ were pre-wired, not 92 and down.

 

1. Check the solenoid to make sure it is working. Run a wire directly from the battery to make sure it makes a clicking noise when you add power to it.

2. Check the oil screen inside the spool valve assembly, to make sure it is not clogged up.

3. If you don't hear clicking, remove the solenoid from the spool valve assembly and make sure that the solenoid moves in and out of its hole freely.

4. Check your oil pressure to make sure you have enough. I'm not sure what the minimum oil pressure to activate the vtec is, but it should be around 60 psi or higher during the vtec engagement rpm(dont' qoute me on that).

5. As a last resort diagnosis tool, run a battery manual bypass switch on the soleniod, activate it during the vtec rpm range. If it comes on, then you might have to try a different good ECU.

92 Civics did indeed all come wired for VTEC. Perhaps you just cant hear it cross over? I've heard that they can cross over anywhere between 4800 and 5600 depending on load and throttle. It sounds like you know what you're doing and everything is hooked up correctly. Check your oil? Bump for more help

I apologize for having incorrect information. So much stuff goes around HT I don't know who is correct and who is incorrect.
