Chicago theft ring caught?
I heard there was a theft ring broke up around 74 or 79 & Western late last week. My friend of a friend said there was a few ITR's there. Can anyone confirm or deny this? I called my detective working my case but still haven't heard back from him. If you know, please speak up.
Thanks,
Thanks,

When my Boomie broke up the theft ring / chop shop in my area, fucktard went to jail for a year, confirmed.

I just checked the knowledge base for Allstate, which is REALLY current, and there is no news about this.
If there was a ring that was busted, the paperwork is either not filed, or the ring wasn't big enough to be reported (they found parts from 4 or less cars, not enough to state that they have possession of stolen cars...but rather possession of stolen parts).
I'll keep checking and if there's any news on it from what I can find, I'll aid in reporting to you guys.

Just got word from a manager on one of the fraud investigations team that another possibility (smaller likely-hood) is that the police did crack a big fencing ring, however, the police want to keep hush-hush about it. They may be trying to find parts distributors, runners, and maybe some bigger chop shops out of it. A clue to this is to watch out for more parts going up for sale, and a REALLY big clue is to watch for more parts going up for sale on the quick and the cheap!
If some of these rings are tied to a bigger operation or a network of smaller rings (by way of confession from those already taken, or simply by association), the last thing they want to be caught with is possession of stolen goods. That'd be catching them with their pants down.
Watch ebay, the H-T classifieds, and the local classifieds (MWIR.net, craigslist, etc.). It may even behoove us to post up shady items here so that past victims can verify whether some of the stuff up for sale could be from their past cars.
WOW!!! Sounds like a drug ring...

I can't say I'd be surprised at all by this....but hope that it is being caught. I've heard too many stories about this kind of stuff.
I had no idea your car was stolen Scott. Sorry to hear.

I'm pretty sure a BIG bust would not be posted on a KB like Allstate's...
[unless of course it was all over the news, which would of course put it out of the BIG category and into HUGE.
]
I don't know anyone who would know anything, but word seems to travel fast about stuff like this, so I'll pass this thread around and see if anyone heard from a friend's boyfriend's sister's best friend's friend who works at 31 flavors....

If it were really big, then it would probably be in the news. Law enforcement tends to publicize big busts (heck, we all like to brag about our accomplishments). I don't come up with any recent stories by doing a search on "auto theft" on the Chicago Tribune website.

The KB that I have access to isn't what would be considered enterprise-wide KB. It comes with one of the roles I serve at the company.
It's been close to 24 hours, and none of the local Chicago boards are a buzz with this info, which in normal cases, they would be.
