Default Wheel Bearing Guidance

After driving my car with a noise I havent been able to figure out, a fellow efer took a ride with me and told me its a wheel bearing. My question is; should i have a shop do it or do it myself? I searched and found a lot of people said it was a bitch. Also does anyone have an estimate of how much it would cost to have all 4 done at a shop?

Thanks

why do all 4? i can almost guarantee you only have one that is bad. is not even that much work either, ive done one in an hour. The most it ever took was about 2 hours.

The front wheel bearings are pressed into the hub which is all pressed into the front knuckle. Unless you have a press, you will have to bring the parts to a shop and have them press off the old parts and press on the new ones.

In the rear, you can't buy the wheel bearings only, you have to buy the entire hub (according to a Honda Parts webpage). Replacing the hub is pretty easy, which you can do yourself.

what about taking a whole knuckle/hub assembly off of a car at the junkyard? to check to see if the wheel bearing is bad dont i just pull on the tire and see how much play(if any) there is?

Yes, you can do that. I personally like to replace bad parts with brand new parts.

Yes. Get the front tire off the ground and check for play while holding the wheel at 3 o'clock/9 o'clock and 12 o'clock/6 o'clock.
