gas mileage
I drive a 6th generation accord and i think i'm getting really low mileage out of a tank of gas. I sometimes dont even get 220 on a tank and its just a 4 cylinder. I have a cold air intake, headers, cat back exhaust, and its also auto. Do u guys think its because of the pasrts I have on my car or because of something else(fuel pump, fuel injectors, fuel filter, etc.)? Any advice will help...
the parts you have listed do use more gas in essence but, your not going to loose as much as you listed. I would say that your fuel is messed up. I am gonna guess try replacing fuel filter and see about your fuel pump then also replace your plug wires. and change oil and filter.
the last thing i did was oil and filter, spark plugs, and i use 93 octane gas. I also put in a octane booster/ cleaner last week. I will replace the wires and check on the fuel filter because for a 4 cylinder its getting ridiculous that my friend with a v6 uses less gas than I do.
1. go back to 87 octane as the engine will offer less power on higher octane fuel.
2. How do you drive your car?
I get 23 in town and 32 on the highway at 80mph and I have a 1994 accord lx

I would say that i drive with a heavy foot. The problem is that when I drive like an old lady I still get the same mileage. THAT SUcks!!! The only problem is that I always put 93 octane because I heard that damages the engine. Also I would rather pay the extra money for the better performance.
the higher octane is not going to make your car perform any different...as youre only running mild bolt ons.
A clogged fuel filter wont give you worse gas mileage..
Try the 87 octane with no booster crap..see what happens.

The above is correct, with a stock block as yours, running higher octane will not make any difference. Your just spending more money for nothing. 87 octane wont hurt your engine at all. There is a lot of reasons you could be getting the mileage your getting.. but check for a fuel leak. do you ever smell gas?

Didnt some magazine do a test on the gas octane thing??? One of the test mules was a honda accord and it performed better on 87 than the higher grades of fuel.

i will switch to 87 and see what happens because i put gas today and i spent 30 dollars on 9 gallons. There is no sign of fuel leak as i checked everywhere and noticed nothing.

we talk about this in school all the time. the higher octane gas is harder to burn. advance the timing if you want to use 93 octane, but thats dumb. well not really, but you know.

Yea, engine maps are optimized for a particular fuel, higher octane means more difficult to detonate, you might be messing up your A/F by having undetonated fuel in the mix. Switching to plain 87 and driving less aggressively, plus maintaining tire pressure, oil changes, spark plugs, etc. should keep it up. I doubt wiht a 6th gen, unless you use leaded gasoline, that the cat convertor is clogged or anything.
car and driver did it on a 1999 accord V6 i believe and the HP dropped by 10 to 190 when they used premium fuel.
Like others and I have said, use 87 octane as HONDA DESIGNED their Accord engines (all of them) to use this fuel and unless you have a 7th gen car( 03 ->
your engine management cannot make use of the higher octane fuel.
using fuel that dropps engine efficiency may cause your emissions to fail since there may be unburned fuel going into the cat(s) and that is the fastest way to burn them up.

You say you are getting ~ 220 miles per tank, but how much gas are you putting in? You really need to figure out what your actual gas mileage is.
a. Fill it up, reset the trip meter
b. Drive it until you think it's pretty close to empty
c. Fill it up again. Divide the number of miles driven by the number of gallons you put in, that's your mpg.
You should be getting somewhere in the mid 20s for city driving, upper 20s for mixed driving, and low to mid 30s for highway driving. Add a couple mpg if you have a 5-speed manual and you aren't racing the engine.

You are more likely to have a vacuum leak than a fuel leak. Any extra air entering the engine will be matched with a richer mixture. The O2 sensor sees the air as a lean condition and compensates with an increased pulse width to the injectors.
Why do people LIE about their gas mileage? The EPA estimated HIGHWAY mileage for your lx is 31mpg. You will never even come close to 32mpg at 80mph.

EPA doesnt mean ****, i've got to believe that. If you check Car and Driver tests, you see they never really fit the true EPA standards, because the EPAs are controlled tests with strict guidelines and the car companies basically cheat their way into saying the cars get better mileage that way.
I can swear that my car gets 28 mpg going 80mph though, and it would get 30+ if I was going only 50, but I'm not driving for 18 hours to save gas mileage....

28 sounds possible but 32mpg at 80mph, NO WAY JOSE. Like I said the EPA eshtmltimated highway mileage is 31mpg. In the real world it is LESS than 31mpg

28's definitely possible, I got 30 going around 70 wiht no AC and 27 going 80 with ac, I did a 700 mile trip and logged the numbers and it came out to an average of 28 mpg at about 80 mph.
Yes, the mileage is always lower than the sticker says, cause they run the tests at like...45 mph versus real highway speeds.
My real complaint is with grossly incorrect numbers, the Prius says 60 on the sticker but C&D found it was more like 40....even with highway....not that 40 is a bad thing at ALL but still misleading!
