RS-R cat back exhaust, what do you guys think of it?
hey there honda -tech folks. i have access to a RS-r catback exhaust system, does anyone know if these things are really loud? do they hook up with the stock exhaust hangers? do they perform well? if so any one have any dyno results so i can see the gains. let me know guys i'm slowly upgrading the car and figure i'd go for the exhaust before i go for the header(can't decide between 4-1 JDm or DC Sport). i figure since i have an K&N intake this will produce more horsies than just installing a header first. thanks
RS*R catback is top notch stuff. The exaust has great welds, and is crafted nicely. It is a relatively quiet exaust, somewhat comperable to the comptech catback in my opinion. The performance is just like any exaust for an N/A setup besides the N1 design, you will see little to no gains from your exaust on your 4 cylinders of fun.
For buying a header I would suggest getting the DC JDM 4-1, good header for a good price.
It all depends on what you want from your car. If you are going turbo somewhere down the road, don't waste your money on an exaust now, because you will want to get an N1 design, or any other exaust that is 3 inches in diameter later. Make plans now for your car, so you don't waste money and do your car wrong the first time.
Good Luck,
Jon

here's the plan:
Vortech supercharger with intercooler(once they get it on the market)
unorthodox/Aem pulley kit
Port and Polish head and intake manifold
4-1 header (fill in the Blank)
exhaust (fill in the blank)
so does it really matter when it's all hooked between a 3" pipe and a 2.5" for this set up and if so what's the diameter of the RS-R?

If you do decide and go with the Vortech SC then you would want a 3" cat-back exhaust to get the maximum gains. I think that applies to most f/i situations.
About the header, I have no clue what works well with the Vortech. I know that alot of JRSC owners use a Kamikaze header.

i have an RS*R...after u use it for a while, it becomes a nice low rumble, very nice cuz i can still hear my vtec on my AEM CAI very much (w cams too)...i love it...it'd be better if it were all stainless...but i'm coo..in cali there's nothin to worry about rust...i think u'd like it...

i dont hear my exhaust at all, all i hear is the AEM CAI. the RS*R isnt a straight through design so it'd bottle neck your supercharger. you want a 3" straight through exhaust. id suggest a thermal r&d exhaust!
What model is that? I mean the RS*R, is it a Magnum or 70 degree? Does it rust? I live in dallas too, just wonder will the road salt during winter rust the exhaust. thks!
I've had the RS*R catback on my car for some time now and there is nothing I would switch it with other than a Mugen.
Its VERY quiet and subdued with a deap sound at low rpms. Gets pretty loud at 6000+
It is a work of art in terms of Welding, fit and finish. Mandrel bent pipes. Bolted right up.
I'll try to post some picks of the install when I get home.
mine is the black with the 70 degree angled tip. Toronto streets have salt, mud, snow, crap, roadkill, you name it.
Still no sign of rust, but I hear that they all rust from inside eventually! It is getting louder with age.. depper sound.
Felt a bug change in performance afte rht eheader and exhaust install. Fuel eceonomy imporoved noticeably as well which lets me conclude that the engine running much better.

RS-R is pretty good exhaust. my friend has one on his GSR, its really quiet but sounds good when he floors it. The only thing that suprised me was he got a exhaust ticket for being to loud when he was driving normal. Also watch out for the RS-R invida exhaust. Alot of people dont know the difference and they get stuck with the invida.
My RS*R is the best exhasut i've ever heard on an Integra. including Comptech. And the power is supposed to be good. downside is the piping is 2.25", so if you've got (or are getting) a crazy NA setup it won't do too well.
what is the rs-r invida exhaust, a cheap knock off or something? and isn't the stock exhaust as subsceptible to rust as any other non stainless exhaust?
RS*R is a little to quiet. Its good if you don't want to get pulled over. Its 4db louder than stock at idle and 1db louder at 6000rpm.
Some guy dyno'ed this car with just the CAT on and with the RS*R catback and only lost 1/10th of a horsepower with the catback on.

the OG RS*R exhaust is the best on the market... IMHO.
The new Skunk2 RS*R and Invida RS*R are all not that great. Some kind of a knock off, mis branding scam to take your money and gave you junk.
So if you have one keep it....

Dont waste your time with a non stainless exhaust...
I had the RS*R (my first exhaust) and it was all everyone said it was,
quiet, powerful, etc...
HOWEVER within 2 months the damn thing started t rust.
At six, one of the internal baffles rusted and broke.
Then it became loud...
