New here................. CRX si w/ gsr swap
ok im new here.....sort of well atleast to the EF forum. im a mod over on hondahookup.com. anyways i finished my 90 crx si w/ my gsr swap about a month ago.
got an lsd b16 tranny, itr final drive, act clutch, 8lb flywheel and of course the gsr swap.
its pretty quick but yea. i ran into a bit of a problem the other day.
i drove my car to school and it was running fine then about 1-2 hours later i came back and tried to start it up.....insteaf of starting it it just made a a fast clicking sound coming from under the dash.
i thought it might be the distributor, so i put in my friends distributor...no luck, same thing with the really fast clicking sound when i try to start it.
i thought it might be the starter but i remember that i had a problem w/ my starter in my EJ coupe w/ a gsr swap and it just wouldnt start if the starter was bad.
i managed to track down the clicking sound under the dash and its coming from a box thats part of a kill switch/keypad alarm i have on the car. it never gave me any problems before so i came here for help.
anyone have any ideas because im all out....
thanks a ton and i'll post some pics of the car later today...

From: if you build it they will come, the bottom carolina, duh
have you tried to make sure your battery terminals are tight. something like this happened to me before and it was just the battery terminal.
car looks real good. Shell looks mint! I have a GSR CRX as well
I had a similar problem with mine, and it was a relay box for the fuel pump try replace that. Or if you run a wire straight from a power source in the fuse box to your fuel pump it might solve the problem, worth a try

Check the main relay under your dash. I have a slightly ghetto way of testing them; once you find it try cranking the car and smacking the relay with a small screwdriver. If that makes it start then there is your prob. Actually sounds more like a grounding issue to me though.

hey guys with the gsr CRXs, sorry to thread hijack but i have a couple of questions for you. i am thinking about scoring a crx shell for $400 to put my gsr swap in, and first of all i wanted to know if there were any problems you encountered getting the swap in. also, this car had a b16 in it already, does that mean my swap will be plug play? also, can you describe how the car drives with that motor in it? i'm dying to know!
Im surprised no one has mentioned this, try replacing your ECU fuse before messing with relays, its in the black box there. I had a similar problem on my rex after converting to OBD1 and it turned over making the clicking noise, just like youre describing.. I replaced the ECU fuse and it started right up.
Look under your hood and see if the thermostat ground is loose. Main relays go bad quite often in out P.O.S's if you can get to it, try unplugging it, letting it cool down and plug it back in. If the relay gets too hot it will not start, but usually when a relay clicks it's because there is a bad ground somewhere...Thermostat ground is my guess...
First thing i check when a main relay clicks like that, is "am i getting enough power".
Is your electrical system at a happy 12v? 11.8 isn't "close enough" LOL
Try jumpering the battery and starting it, and then try the same thing with another battery.
One thing everyone on HT should know, and never seem to, is that if the main relay is clicking - That is proof positive that the main relay is PERFECT. The main relay is supposed to click, it's when it does NOT that the main relay may need replacing.
When a main relay clicks on and off, it's because it does not have enough power to keep the circuit open
1. it opens the switch,
2. that allows power to flow to things like the fuel pump,
3. when that happens, the whole system doesn't have enough power for the switch as well.
4. switch closes
Then the cycle repeats, because once the circuit closes, the relay/switch, once again, has enough power to open.
Damn thread jackers LOL Do a search for your questions.

Check the battery first. Might have a bad cell. Easy stuff first.

Nice looking CRX clean enough to serve dinner off of, Dunno much about your problem starting it. sounds like fuse issues check all connections grounds under hood
