falken ziex 14in treadwear question
so here is my situation, a year ago I wanted a better tire so I got 4 falkens 185/65/14. in the past year i have put 15k miles on em and they are just about completely bald. i drive a lot on the highway commuting back and forth from college - 250 mile one way on nothing but interstate and major highways. I do not drive hard, I have a stock D16 so i'm not spinning them out. Are these tires supposed to last the 30K the warrenty is for or do they wear down fast on highway use? any suggestions on other brands that last longer on highway would be great too.
thanks for your help
thanks for your help
i've had my car aligned, the tread wore down evenly and i've rotated my tires twice so far...i'm just wondering if its a softer rubber and it just wears out quicker on the highway, as i said I drive a lot on highways. the dealer i got the tires from said to run the tires at 50psi with the max of the tire being 51, is that too high and causing me to wear quicker i wonder. oh well any other input would be greatly helpfull

That's terrible advice. You should use the air pressure recommended in your car's owner's manual. The maximum pressure shown on the sidewall is almost always WAY too high. If you're actually using 50 psi, that could cause the tires to overheat and lead to rapid wear. If you're using the pressure recommended for your car (instead of your dealer's bad advice), then I would suggest contacting Falken (800-723-2553 or technical@falkentire.com) to ask them about it. That's also the place to call about warranty claims...

dude...i think thats way to much for the psi...thats probably the reason y you're tires are getting bald so fast....and even if it says 51psi..you should always go like about 5 or 6 psi lower....well im pretty sure its the PSI thats killing your tires...keep the falkens but try it at a lower psi...
I run my **** at 32psi. I've had two sets of Falkens Ziex 512's and they were absolute ****. Somewhat grippy, but HORRIBLE treadwear. 300 tread, but more like 150. I recently read that those ratings were per company, not in general. so a 300 at one company is not the same for another.
