newbie tuning, pearls of wisdom needed!!
Hey there guys/gals I'm new to the forum and am just doing some research for a friend. I drive a VW Rabbit/Golf mk1 and know dubs but not Hondas.
My friend has just bought a nice 1992 Honda Ballade DOHC 1.6 (non vtec, I don't know the engine code yet), its a South African model (like a 4 door CRX sedan) and I'm not sure if it was availble everywhere. The car is really neat and has a nice cold air intake and filter and an exhaust (no headers).
He wants some more power, give me some options, prefreably affordable most bang for the buck type stuff.
So far the suggestions are to put the 1.8 bottom end on (not sure how easy this is and what parts are needed, ie 1.8 conrods and crank etc), or go throttle bodies and stay with the 1.6 capacity.
Any suggestions most welcome thanks

IMO, unless he's serious about the d-series in there (typical ZC I'm guessing, <110whp), he'll be better off boosting it, or swapping in any B-series.
I'd really like to see a picture of a 4-door crx though

hey man, in vw terms....modding a nonvtec motor for power is like modding a mk3 ABA to run with the vr's....much more cost effective to just swap it
I think the car was sold as the Civic in America, but it was discontinued over there before it was here. So the engine is pretty hopeless, I'm not sure its the same engine that you guys got though. So how difficult is it to swap the VTEC engine into the car, would the gearbox have to be changed etc.
Oh and the VR6 is not the be all and end all of VW motors, plenty of people are not fans of it.

oh i know vr's aren't god....just making the point that an aba can't make that sort of power cost effectively. Trying to say that you'd be better off swapping it
but also, if it is one of these *odd* motors that parts aren't really made in vast quantities, budget(pieced together) turbo systems running low boost might be a good option
