autoX'rs check in!
Hey guys
this will be my first year running street mod, since i put in my turbo (should be fun)
anyways, my brakes are SHOT from turbo abuse, so i plan oin going with a 4piston set up (Baer, wilwood etc etc) problem is i dont have the money for that now, so untill then id like to get a nice pair of pads to hold me over. can anyone suggest anything?
ive heard Hawks are great, and ive heard the suck. AEM is great, but they suck. can anyone shed some light!

Hawk HP+ : Great for street, suck on track
Hawk Blue: Great for track, suck on street
Others that are good for street: Porterfield R4-S, KVR, Metal Masters
Those to avoid: EBC, VGX

Andie seemed to say the P+ bite too hard once they warm up to allow good pedal modulation for autox. The Hawk HP+ rule for autox/street driving. I've heard the Porterfield R4S is about the same. Neither will work on a roadcourse.
Andie mentioned some good things about the Axxis Ultimate pads (NOT MetalMaster) and seemed to indicate they are comparable to the Hawk HP+ with better ice-cold bite and are easier on rotors. I'm going to speak to him within the near future about those two pads and some other options.

so to sum this all up........you guys reccomend the hawk HPs for street and the monthly autoX event?
and to the guy who commented on the far right being the turbo abuse.........when you go faster, you run out of room to stop as fast!
Rodney: Im in rochester!

Keep in mind there are the Hawk HPS and HP+ pad. I wasn't sure which you specifically mentioned in your last post. The HP+ are the more aggressive pad of the two, just to clarify. Best of luck to you!
I have Hawk HPS+ (I guess they are the samething as the HP+?) Anyways, I used them at VIR and they were awesome! I had to get on the brakes big time into turn 1 following Morgan one time, and i stopped well short of him and he was using the Panther+ I believe. I would not use the HPS+ on the street though, the last set I had warped my rotors in a matter of months.
So i took them off, and for the 1st autox, i didn't use them (to lazy to put them on) I had the $20 Everwear pads from Autozone, man, I thought i could never get my car to stop, owell i get 11th overall out of 84 cars, not to shabby.

I run Porterfield R4S and stock gsr brakes for autox...and my friend is using HPS and they will give you more than enough braking power at autox. I ordered some wilwood calipers this season mainly for weight saving purpose. Either way you shouldn't have any brake issues in an autox. Where are you planning to autox? I'll definitely be at Etown every NNJR events in SM.
just as a warning, the HP+s do dust quite a bit..if that's a concern of yours (at least mine have so far, I've only put 500 miles or so on them). But they have a good bite.
PS: I get that quote in your sig quite a bit as well.

Ditto on the HP+ dusting factor -- they are some seriously dusty SOBs. But, man, they have terrific bite and control for autocross. I've done two autocrosses on mine thus far, and they must not have been fully bedded for the first race, because they didn't impress me much. I had a very different reaction for the second race -- quite a noticable improvement and much better performance than the HPSs I had on the car previously.

Ok so overall you guys say the Hawk HP+ are GREAT for autox, but are they ok to use on the street, i just got BRAND NEW Brembo Rotors, and i do NOT want to warp them. am i safe to go with the Hawks?
and rodney, i race in the Finger Lakes SCCA

I dont know what kind of place you guys race, but our AutoX's are in large parking lots. I really dont use my brakes all that much. I mean you only hit 40, maybe 45 MPH, so its not to hard to slow from 40 to 15 MPH. If a corner is really tight, I just try and whip the car around hard to keep my momentum going.
This year I WILL beat some Type R!

Are those Carbotech Brakes good brakes? I am looking for a set that I can use for street and track that last a long time. I am using the honda pads now and I really don't like them. I am having to brake too early before a turn at the track. Also which set of the Carbotech's do I need for my 89 CRX Si?

Used HPS pads this past weekend at an auto-x and they did great. I'm sure the stock pads would have done just as good on such a low speed course, but these didn't let me down.
ok next question,
where is the cheapest place to buy hawk pads!?!
