Default oil change

ok i got my car back in june (2005 Honda Civic LX sedan) and my dad keeps bitching at me to get an oil change...i only have round 1500 miles right now and the sticker on my windshield says im supposed to have it done at 3755....is it true your supposed to have it done the first 1000 miles?

You can do that. Once you are done though, it will only be necessary to do it every 5000 miles, as long as you drive it around a lot, if you only take it out once in a while and the engine doesn't get to operating temp. then i would stick to 3k, but I would do it right now just becuase I am **** like that. And if you do it yourself don't worry about the synthetic ****, unless you really want to spend the extra 5.00$ a quart.

u should wait till 5000 for the first oil change...cuz i think honda put special additives in the oil so it helps the break in process...but maybe i heard wrong.

I think I heard that about the special additives as well. I would wait till at least 3000 if not 5000.

why not do it anyway to be safe. its a brand new car, and its only 20 bucks at most for oil and a filter.

You did not hear wrong.

There is a "break in oil" when the car is shipped, and you should change the oil according to the schedule in the manual for the first oil change. At least wait unitl the "severe service" interval.

If you want to spend money changing the oil more often after that, then it's your money.
