2001 Civic EX Struts and Steering
Hey all, new guy here so I appreciate your patience and time.
I have a 2001 Honda Civic and I just got 17 inch wheels on it. There is a really bad shimmy when I hit certain speeds or hit bumps or uneven road. I had the tires balanced twice and I got an alignment. It fixed the problem a little bit, but it's still bad. So I ordered some hub extenders (I think that's what they're called) to prevent vibration from the lugs not holding the wheel completely secure.
On top of that, my front right strut is shot. I tried to get just the one replaced, but the shop I went to couldn't get the part and I got to thinking that I wanted to get aftermarket struts, perhaps coilovers?
I'm very uninformed regarding the suspension of the car (or any car in general) and I need some help in finding a good set of struts or coilovers to help. Also, I'd want to get any parts that would be needed to ensure a proper installation. If I buy 4 struts, do I need any other parts to make them fit the car?
One last issue, it seems that since I bought the car the steering was very loose. I bought this civic last September and this April I bought a 2005 Mazda 3. The 3's suspension is very sharp very nice. Obviously the 3 has different suspension and steering than the civic, but I feel the civic is almost too loose. What is the best solution for tightening up the steering? I put 215/40/ZR17 Falkens on the wheels and thought that might help a little, of course it didn't.
TIA
