Tour of Southern California- Epic Ride- PICS!!!
So Mr. Gumtape Deathmatch, his father, who we will call "Iceman" (since we all enjoy Top Gun here) and I went for a nice journey through SoCals wonderous roads on Saturday Aug. 27th.
The meet-up spot was Green Rabbit Garage in Duarte. From there we found our way to McD's for some nutritious breakfast and wake up juice.
Now off to Azusa Canyon, all is well until the road construction. They were grinding up the road so they could lay a new surface on top. That was fun as the bike tended to swerve with the grooves.
We survived the construction and found our way to GMR. As usual there were a few crazies on that section. Up top we did the usual rest and BS session. Talked with a few other riders and took off heading east towards Mt. Baldy.

The ride to Baldy was adventerous. We passed up an entire Ducati crew that had been smoking their European cigarettes while BSing at GMR. It was pure bliss eating up the posers in the twisties!
Once we got to the peak of Baldy we took another breather then headed back down the hill to the boring part of the journey, traveling on freeways to Idillwyld.
The view from the road heading up the hill is awesome. Every turn gives you the heebie-jeebies because it looks like you'll go shooting of the side of the mountain and land on the town of Banning (or whatever town it is).

We even got Iceman to throw down a nice JDM pose!

Once more a rest at the top and some more spit talking. We took a lunch break in the little artsy town of Idilwyld at a place called Joannes. Two of us got taken for lunch and one of us made off like a bandit. We will not mention any names. Just a word of advice- don't order the sausage.

Another fun section was ahead of us. Heading down Highway 74 into the valley of the dirt people, AKA Hemet. That road is smooth, twisty and overcrowded. We got stuck behind a horse trailer for a few turns but quickly cracked the go fast grip and finished our way down into the valley. Temps that day were supposed to be 108 and it felt like every bit of it. This is where Iceman left us to meet up with others. Gumtape and I ventured on across the other boring section of land. Cruising the 74 across the "valley" was nasty. It was hot, dirty and plenty of stop lights. While waiting at one we got a
from a local dirty white boy without a shirt who was trolling for hoes.
Finally making it across the wasteland we took a break in Lake Elsinore. Mr. Gum had to crawl his heat exhausted *** inside an ice cooler and drink two bottles of water to get back to speed. The Dirt Valley had tried to take his life but he conquered and lived to ride another day!

We then headed up Ortega Highway and snapped a couple photos. Took off from the photo spots and instantly got stuck behind cagers. We made our way past a few of them but was dealt a bad hand by the gods and had to follow an older Asian female who felt the need to overdrive her Camry through the turns. This was good to slow us down because exhaustion was setting in.
After the slow pace of the Camry we nailed the throttle once again and made it to the 5 where we headed south to North Beach of San Clemente. Our destination was a good friend and fellow riders coffee shop called Kay Lani Coffee Co. it is right on PCH by the Amtrak stop. Andrew hooked us up with awesome rejuvinating drinks and sent us packing.

Next stop, Rancho Santa Margarita. Went to say hello to another friend who had just got back from the Monterey Historic Races and the all new Gravity Racing Exhibition. BS'ed for a while then headed back north and called it a day.
The trip meter totalled out at 334.3 miles.
In the words of my homie Ice Cube "I'd have to say it was a good day!"

Good commentary & great pics. I will look through my pics and see if I can't add some more.

That's why we wake up @ 5
oam! Squids & cagers are too lazy to be the first ones on the mountain. I agree with you though for the most part. I stay away from Ortega and my next big ride is most likely highway 58.
Just a word of caution. There is a tw33ker in a white 350z who thinks fun to run East Fork behind bikers to see if he can keep up with them! He's up there @ 4
oam on weekends and the only person we've seen up there before us.

Well then, you havent seen me in the red GSR up there yet
But usually I am towards the crest/tujunga where the real speed occurs. I have not gone but a few times this year. I should pay a white 350 a visit, and get some spanking done. how was he acting? dangerously or can he actually drive? could you and your friends drop him? Anyway, I am the same and have been for over 20 years, up and out the door by 4
good to see that someone has taught you well
i'm the red second gen GSR#230

The rest if any folks are intersted are here at my friends site:

I have to contend with alot of RV's when I go up into the Bighorn mountains for a nice ride. Wind river Canyon is usually choked with tourists if you hit it at the wrong time

I hate that particular road... it's to small, though I've ridden her many times. Sure looks great in those shots though, looks like you guys are having a blast, and it is early enough to have a nice safety margin.
Is this where the Z was acting foolish? if so you better becareful, four wheels on a road that tight will burry two wheels. Keep up th SAFE riding.
peace

Long miles + SuperHawk = lots of time spent pushing the pig
I'll make it out for one of these long-rides soon.
Just wait up for me when I've got to stop for gas every 80 miles
