The ZC SOHC is a D16Z6 (JDM Style). The two are identical, same compression ratio OBD1. The ZC does not have a 4 wire O2 sensor the D16Z6 does. the D16Z6 uses a P28 the ZC uses a P08. Both are OBD1 both have VTec and require extra wiring in a CRX (HF,DX or Si).

Thats it in a nut shell.

I do not know much about the HF, I assume it is MPFI and OBDO.

The ZC (D16Z6) is OBD1 and if you intend to run it OBD0 you will have to wire something in for VTec activation, The ZC/D16Z6 has OBD1 injectors (no resistor box) everything else should be ok, should check wire colour codes. As for the ECU the HF unit if (compatible) will need tuning as the ZC/D16Z6 has larger injectors and throttle body. O yes, the OBD0 distributor mounting will have to be modified to fit the P08 (ZC/D16Z6) head.

My suggestion, convert the HF harness to OBD1 at the engine (still plugs into firewall harness) and add the extra wires for the VTec.

Search for HF to OBD1 conversion

I thought the ZC motor was equivalent to the D16a6 or was it D16a2... well whichever one it is, it suppose to have a more aggressive cam and is not equipped with vtec. Thats what I've been reading on the forums but now I dont know. Im pretty sure the ZC doesnt have vtec though....

the sohc cam zc does have v-tec i have one it kicks in a 4500. I love that motor. All motors on civic ex's have v-tec even though it doesnt say on the motor. My sohc zc says HONDA VTEC on the valve so ur wrong homie.

The ZC as the letters imply was available as a SOHC and a DOHC (Neither were available as North American production). Both motors have ZC stamped on the block. The DOHC ZC was discontinued in favour of the B16A, D15B (SOHC VTec) and the new ZC (SOHC VTec) . As for VTec, the DOHC ZC was a non VTEC motor and the ZC SOHC motor had VTec.

The DOHC ZC was last seen in Japan in 1990 or 1991 the DOHC ZC was replaced with the B16A as a Civic/CRX SiR in 1990/91.

The SOHC ZC first came about in the Integra, better known as a D16Z6 in North America.

The DOHC ZC was OBDO and the B16A1 and D16Z6 and D15B were OBD1. The SOHC ZC and D15B was the first OBD1 to receive the VTec the "B" series received it later in life (92). The D15B is virtually a 1.5L mini-me.

The D16A1 (2) not sure is a ZC DOHC with less enhancements and was sold in the Integra in North America. The JDM ZC DOHC (130hp) was never available in North American production vehicles.

Don't get confused boys, the bottom end of a DOHC ZC is not the same as the bottom end of a SOHC ZC even though the block has ZC stamped on it.

The JDM D15B uses the same head as the SOHC ZC, but the bottom end is totally different again.

The only thing thing that was exclusive to Japan in "model number" but an exact duplicate in North America as a different "model number" is as follows:

JDM ZC SOHC = USDM D16Z6 (IDENTICAL except for O2 sensor) North America is a little more concerned with air quality

First off are you running the DOHC ZC or the SOHC ZC. Next is SOHC ZC, the SOHC ZC had the water temperature sensor in the head instead of the block. Does not matter where it is as long as the wires are hooked up.

The SOHC ZC can rum with the PM6 and an external VTec switch. The HF used the PM8, the DOHC ZC the PM7. Check the pinouts on the ECU and make sure they feed the same component from the same location, if they do not you must rewire or use a conversion harness.

What injectors are you running, what distributor are you running?

If OBD1 injectors, you must remove the injector resistor box and wire accordingly.

up with the obd0 harness and i cut the resistor box and solder
all the wires together... i was reading how to do this setup here

You will have to check and see if the pin outs on the PM7 are the same as the PM6 and PM8?
