Default what i have: exhaust problems. what i need: options.

ok so i have a 92 VX hatch, stock, motor-wise, most of you will understand my question without further explanation, others will need a little help, so for the others:
the VX has the catalytic converter stuck right underneath the exhaust manifold that somewhat resembles a turbo manifold.

ok so on to the problem...i started my car and POOF! blew a hole through the rear-most weld on the resonater so i have a leak there and my muffler was always leaking...and on top of that...there are chunks of catalytic converter rattling around in my resonator.

now, normally, i would just replace all this and be done with it....but alas a GSR swap awaits me in the spring and well, i am the complete opposite of a wealthy man. so i have a few questions as to options to address this concern.

ok so here they go.

1:is there a way to replace the center-pipe and the axle back only, and to have a GSR cat + B pipe match up to it down the road??

2:is there a cheap/easy way to patch up the leak so it lasts until spring?

3:what are my options as to aftermarket parts to deal with question number one?

4:how much is all this going to cost me?

thank you,

-SRH

Easiest question to answer would be #2. Yes, there is a way to patch a leaking exhaust. They sell several different kits at autozone/advanced auto. As I recall, one has some heat proof woven stripping that you can wrap around your muffler/pipe and coat with some kind of substance to harden it up. Check around the exhaust section. Cost as I recall was under $20 in eastern Tn.

The other solution that would come to mind (~#3/2) would be to go shopping for exhaust fittings and pipe. When my muffler rotted off, I got a cherry bomb turbo for $16, and all the fittings I needed to put it on for like $7, which grand total w/ brazing rods and all was like $25. I forget the exact size of civic piping, but I remember that there was a connector that had the exact ID on both ends that it would slide over the civic pipe. You could easily obtain a couple of those and a length of pipe the same size of your civic pipe, and eliminate your resonater for the moment. Ditto for a cheap muffler. If you get a decent enough muff, you could probably go without the resonator without it being too loud....otherwise you could pick up a used one. I figure you could probably have it all for $40 or less.

As for a good answer to #1, I'm about clueless.... sorry.
