Default 2 questions: Car idling under 500k and is there a fuse for the cluster?

If the car is idling under 500k whats going on and what do I have to do?

My speedometer is not working for anything, I tried a new speed sensor, new plug going to it and I cant figure anything out. Could it be the tranny?

Hey Manny,

For thespeedo, pull the gauge cluster and trace the speedo wire back all the way to the fuse box to make sure it's connected everywhere. If that doesn't work, you'll need to try a different speedo. I can send you mine up, I don't need it.

There is a 10a (back up light) fuse that also works for the guages, but if this was blown the tach, and even your directionals wouldn't work. Like litterbox said check the speedo wire for shorts between the cluster and the VSS..

Trace it from the cluster to the fuse box under the dash?

How about the idling problem?

I was always told 900 and 800 is good.

Would a low idle degrade my performance? Also, how would i be able to raise it?

you dont get it. 500k = 500 000 rpm, you mean 500rpm, according to this guy

if you havent since buying the car...nows a good time to get a tune up. summer heat will make it idle low if the cars running shitty, even turn off by itself at red lights n stop signs.

Factory idle is 750 rpm +/- 50 rpm. So the stock range with no load on the alt is 700-800 rpm. AC, the stereo, rear defrost may slightly increase this. You can try adjusting the idle with the idle adjuster screw on the throttle body. As Beav said a tune-up would be a good idea. Something failing or worn in the ignition could drop the idle slightly.

But in order to really trouble-shoot this we need to know more details. What car/engine/ecu? Any CEL?
