Grinding into third all of a sudden
Now that you say shift linkage, about a month ago, i ran over a semi tire retread and it snatched it out of third. I dont know if that is the cause of it or not, but you did remind me of that.

ahh, yes. with this in mind: linkage is first place to look. i'll bet it's damaged

when was the last transmission oil change? Look into Syncromesh (penzoil) it works for some tranny's that grind, unless your really really grinds but hey try it anyway!

i always add a little Hypoid when i change the tranny oil, but i don't understand how an additive will stop 'grinding'...

Give GM Synchromesh Friction Modified a try. It does indeed smooth out shifts considerably. While it won't necessarily stop a grind, it can reduce grinding.

I just bought 3 quarts of the syncromesh today, they said they didn't have the friction modified one though. Should I get some quarts friction modified and take these back or should it be fine?
