Default Removing Airbags And Steering Wheel Questions

I plan on removing both airbags and the SRS unit from my track-only car very soon. Does anybody that have done this have any suggestions or a how-to to make sure I get it out correctly? Instead of the block-off tray on the passsenger side I can just cover the hole with the original cover, correct?

I am planning on getting the Sparco Ring steering wheel and selling my JDM SRS wheel (if you want it let me know). Does anybody using a Sparco wheel know which hub adapter I need?

I removed both airbags from my car (del sol). You are able to still use the airbag tray, the airbag is screwed or secured to it. I removed my dash which made the whole thing a lot easier. I also removed the wiring as well as the airbag ECU, so I would'nt have the damn light on. Good luck.

NOTE: It is illegal to remove safety equipment from your vehicle.

I'm using this Sparco hub adapter : #01502093 together with a Sparco quick release and a Sparco 368 steering wheel. I have removed the airbags, the wire reel on the steering column, and the SRS unit located under the center console. And it is correct that you can reinstall the airbag cover after unbolting it from the airbag.

Yes that will work and dont forget to uplug the srs light from behind the cluster (you can reach around under the dash and unplug it that way) or you abs light will be on.

Ryan-Who just installed a block off tray thanks to Double A..

edit: changed abs for srs

Its gonna be the SRS light.

I have this done on my car as well. I didnt remove the dash though, because the passenger airbag is really easy to remove. The cover can be"recycled" as stated above. If you are looking for used parts, a steering wheel adapter from an EG is the same as the Integra.

Note that the SRS light on the cluster can be "remove" by unplugging the yellow plug.

I'm pretty sure it should make no difference, however I'm positive that in some states it is illegal to sell a car that has had it's airbags removed.

I've never heard of anyone getting hit with a fine. Although unless a full time track car I dont see why you would want to get rid of the bags. I got the JDM srs wheel, perfect feel and an airbag.

This was done to my R, and here is some helpful info.

1st and most important thing - Disconnect the battery before doing anything else. You don't want the airbags to go off in your face by surprise.
2nd - Remove the glove box, this makes it very easy for you to take off the passenger airbag.
3rd - You will need a special hex driver for the SRS unit under the dash(on the floor under the radio).
4th - Make sure you have your steering wheel turned and locked so you can get to the screws on the column.

Have fun and Good Luck, if there are any problems you come across, let me know and I can help.

its not the process im necessarily concerned about... i just wanted to know what would happen if a popo rolled me over and saw that I was missing airbags... or does it not matter? Im asking because i would like a quickrelease steering wheel and nrg makes a lock for it making it hard for theives to put on their own steering wheel and drive away with my R...

Your probably best off asking people in your scene. I'm sure its illegal, but I'm also sure that law enforcement on this would depend on area. You're in SoCal, so you shouldn't have a problem finding somebody thats removed them.

ok, lets see... you get pulled over, lets say you were speeding, or did a little 'California" stop" move, cop pulls you over.

1: do you really think he cares about your airbag to even ask or look for it, 99 times out of 100, absolutly NOT! more like 9,999 out of a 10,000

2: do you even think he knows what to look for?? i don't think so, is he going to rip your dash apart?? do an under the steering colomn inspection?? i mean it's rediculous even think about it.

3: does he have helms manuals of every car showing him where each and every airbag is located for each and ever car?? no F'in way...

it's wierd you'd even be worried about it, the ONLY way i can see you getting a ticket or in any kind of trouble over it is if you have a deflated airbag sticking out of your dash or sterring wheel.

though Opie made a point about selling the car without airbags, but that's not what you're worried about.

Out of all the times I've been pulled over, only once the cop has asked where my airbag was. He also measured the aftermarket steering wheel to see if it was within spec. I didnt get a ticket for either one, and the only comment the officer made about the airbag was "do you know that in the event of an accident the airbag gives you a better chance to live?" I said yes sir, he gave me my speeding ticket and let me on my way.

This was in Virginia by a State Trooper.

Have you guys ever considered insurance? I'm sure they could use this excuse to screw you over in the case of an accident.

well when i sit in my car. I sit too close to the air bag, too the point THE air bag itself could kill me. I am one short dude. not everyone is 5'5 or taller (which most airbags are intended for). if you read the warning label it states DO NOT sit close to the steering wheel. i have no choice if i want to reach the pedals. so i have mine removed to protect myself. IF there is no exceptions to the rule. there should be.
