Default need help, keep going through starters on b16

I have a first gen b16 in my rex. im on my third starter in about a year and my car wouldn't start again, smacked the starter a few times with a wrench and it fired right up.
it had be working perfect since that last time i replaced the starter in june until just now. today when it happened i had just drove it around town for about 10-15 minutes, half way through i even shut it off and it started up fine. came home washed the car and it wouldn't start until i hit the starter. whats wrong? i do think my engine bay temperatures seem a little hot but then again it is an engine bay, and my coolant temp sensor shows that its were it is supposed to be.

does the wiring look good? is there any exposed wires or anything...also sometimes if you get cheap rebuilt parts from autozone ect. the parts sometimes go up quicky, I went through a couple alternators but the last one I got seems to be holding up

no i don't see any wires exposed.

ya i know, i wish i wouldn't have bought the cheap autozone starter, but i was having problems with the original honda one that came with it, i had problems with the first autozone replacement and now im having problems with this one. it kinda makes me wonder if there isn't more to it ya know?

I think autozone gave u have a bad starter. What i think happen is the starter itself have a shorted brush or shoe inside. Therefore, when you hit the starter with a hammer, you have seperated the short and that will make the starter work.
Not to put down the autozone or anything. Last year, the starter on my b16a2 went bad and i bought one from autozone. I have to exchange three times and finally the 3rd one work til now.

autozone, checker and pepboys are known for that if you get a "rebiult" one. sometimes rebuilt ones arent as good as the price tag. i say just get a brand new one or try your luck with another rebuilt unit

the guys working there say that if my timing were off of could cause them to blow? does this sound right? i don't understand, even IF my timing was off how would that have any effect on the starter? is it just me or are they on crack?

probably a bad connection..check all ur connections for corrosion...if any has occured clean it off so there is a clean contact point..
then again autozone starters have the notoriety of being shitty...they are usually rebuilt and i have had experiences with customer cars where i would have to change the same part 3 times before we got a correctly built one...

i dont see how timing would affect the starter..
sounds like a connection issue..think about it...u sau that when u wack it, it starts working...that just means ur knocking the loose connection back into place...find ur bad connection and u found the cause of ur problem

Doesnt sound like the starter to me. Mine used to give me problems too. i would have to hold the ignition in the START position while someone hit the starter with a hammer, then it would fire up. I ended up replacing my ignition wire harness, the part on the backside of the key tumber. Cost me about $60 from Honda. Problem has been gone ever since, and im still using the same starter that i had to hit with a hammer, and its a "rebuilt" one.

so the timing in no way is tied to the starter? i just want to make sure because if i go to autozone i know this is what they are going to tell me.

when you swaped your engine did you change the flywheel? I had a similar problem with my 88 bronco II years back and I put in like 15 kragen starters no joke. Checked the flywheel and I had so many teeth ground down to nothing. Anyway, check the flywheel, not sure how you would do it in a rex, but the way we did it was pull the starter and rotate the engine to look at all the teeth. Hope this helps.
