Default IS it ok to have aftermarket Steering wheel?

Anyhow, I dont know what to do? I spoke to the insurance company about the steering wheel swap. I wanna get the Mugen or Momo steering wheel for Type R. The problem is the insurance will not cover the accident unless if there is an airbag on the car. Im pretty bit confuse because everytime I look up on the Honda Tech and I see some car (with SRS) have aftermarket wheel.. What should I do?

It's either a federal or state law that says you can't remove a functioning airbag under penalty of fine and possible imprisonment

It must be a state thing. It's completely legal in NY but insurance will not cover you incase of an accident.

I check with my insurance for two things... a turbo and the steering wheel. My agent said that they wouldn't cover me if the car was turbo'd and I didn't report it to them, and they said they couldn't care less about the steering wheel. It makes not too much sense to me but what do I know...

OHH I think some of you guys are right.. I think the insurance wont have to go look the steering wheel after the car accident. Cuz last time, I went to go junkyard to go pick some stuffs in my fiance car and the insurance agent came to give my fiance the estimate the price of damage. HE didnt say anything about the airbag deploy or what we have on the car.. I think I go ahead and buy the Momo Monte Carlo and Airbag Tray.. Thanks!!!!

I just wouldn't bring myself to do it. I'm personally looking into a CTR or S2000 wheel for daily driving. Maybe aftermarket for track days. Air bag saved my bro's life.

It true airbag save people live.. but very rare people could have broken chin, any face bone, or spinal cord injury by the airbag deploy.. It is very strong to pop out and save people live but Im pretty bit worry about it.. My firance gf got into accident by cop hit her car. The airbag deploy and the white powder came out of the bag.. It burn on her arm from the white powder in the airbag.. ya heard the powder inside the airbag.. The dealership told me the powder is for keep the bag fresh.. Never heard of it.. Oh well!!!!

Never heard of the powder either. In my experience though the bag has been more a safety feature than a threat.

If it didnt come with an airbag then go for it, but if it did then I wouldnt mess with it if its a dd. And I dont know about having an aftermarket wheel and an airbag, I heard of a couple of people on hear that have that.. wouldnt that mean youll get a Nardi wheel launched at your face in an accident?

What did I say that was funny, I know there was some grammatical mistakes. My insurance company is really weird, they wouldn't even know what an airbag looks like

just get the jdm itr wheel with srs. I bought a spoon for my eg but its not daily driven so I dont worry as much about having an airbag. If you drive your car every day though id look into the srs ctr or itr

i like having an airbag, its a feeling of safety. if you dont want one then get a different wheel.

My insurance took about 4 days to actually inspect my car. Plenty of time to put the stocker back on and pretend like it just didnt deploy.

Why do you ask people on the internet if your insurance company already said they wont do jack **** for you if you have one?

It's not like you'll be making any extra hp or saving more than 2 lbs.... Believe me I have a spare steering column lying around....
