Default How much could I get for my JDM R?

I was just wondering what everyone thought a good price to ask for if I wanted to sell my 1996spec JDM Type R.

-It has approx. 39-41k miles on it.
- Brand new Tein Flex coilovers (less then 2000 miles)
- Brand new Recaro seats.
- New tires (BFG Drag radials in front, BFG KDW in the rear).

Waiting on the stock JDM front bumper. Rear bumper has been freshly painted.

Yours seems very beat, so I wouldn't expect too much.

Maybe $6000 at most?

And just how do you justify that price when 97/98 USDM ITR's with even higher mileage are selling for $13-16K easy? A 50+% depreciation value on a car thats 1 year older doesn't make any sense to me.

It's a 96 Spec ITR.

Those aren't worth much at all.

EDIT:

Also, USDM ITR's seem to actually hold their value a lot better than JDM ITR's.

FWIW, our 98 Spec with under 35k km's (under 22k miles), was purchased for less than $18k USD.

True, but how do you know it was beat on?

Front bumper has been replaced.

Rear bumper has been repainted.

Front seats have been replaced.

These details would indicate to me, as a prospective buyer, that the car was not treated very well.

Also the fact that the front tyres are drag radials, does not look very good either. This alone would kill the deal for me. I would never buy a car from a teenager who mounted drag radials on the front of the car all the time.

Your comparing apples to oranges. Japans market isn't the same as the US market.

With all the ITR theft and such thats been going on here in the US over anything "Type-R" its obvious the demand is MUCH greater here than in Japan. On top of that, the supply of ITR's in Japan is greater than the demand, which is why one can be bought for a cheaper price than here in the US.

$6K is the price YOU would pay. Based upon what JDM 96spec R's have already sold for here, the US market value of a JDM ITR is obviously more than that.

in perfect stock condition with that mileage, i'd say it's worth 8-10k here in the states, unlegalized.

The cars are coming from the same market. They are just being resold for outrageous amounts.

If one really wanted a 96 Spec JDM ITR, one could go and get one for under $10k, including shipping back to the US.

Correct, this is why any intelligent person who was genuinely interested in obtaining a JDM ITR would find a car in Japan and ship it over himself.

I'm personally not willing to pay a premium for a product unnecessarily, just because others have done so.

If you enjoy doing such things, great.

Find me this deal and you will win the "coolest person on H-T award". Most of the ITR owners I asked in Japan said they love them and seemed reluctant to ever sell them.

Heres the million dollar question:

Is the car, in it's preasent state, LEGALLY and fully registered with an issued VIN number in the state where you and/or the car reside?

...more like the three thousand dollar question.

I would expect a 96 spec in the aforementioned condition to sell in the seven to eight thousand range if unregistered. If registered, then maybe ten or eleven. You can always sit on it until you find someone willing to pay more.
