Default Another Noob question. d16z6 + 89 Si tranny = which clutch and flywheel?

I have been reading all day long and it seems like everyone says the 89 tranny should work with the d16z6 clutch...

Well, mine doesn't fit. I mean, the d16z6 clutch disk that I have doesn't fit on the 89 Si tranny and the 89 Si clutch that I have doesn't fit on the d16z6 flywheel..

Okay, so I'm a bit confused.

With the 89 Si tranny do I HAVE to use a clutch and flywheel from an 89 Si tranny? Will the flywheel and clutch from a 91 LX work? Or no?

I just want to make my d16z6 work with the 89 Si tranny I have. So which parts do I need to use??

you have to use the 90 and up clutch if u want to use the z6 flywheel b/c the z6 has a 212mm surface and the 89 has a 200. i have a 90 up fadanza flywheel and a 90 up exedy clutch in my 89 crx si with a d16a6

I'm confused... you said I can use a 90+ clutch and the z6 flywheel?

I have a clutch from a 94 Si and the splines don't match up to the 89 Si tranny.

And the 89 Si pressure plate doesn't match up to the 94 Si flywheel, like you mentioned.

So, do I need to use a 89 Si clutch disk, pressure plate, and flywheel?

if the 94 clutch disc didnt work on the "89" tranny then, you have a 88 model tranny, sry man.

Get a 89+ tranmission then just use a 90+ Flywheel/clutch combo.

Just for us to be 100% positive count the splines on the tranny.

21 spline 88 tranny
20 spline 89+ tranny.

what kryogen said is right... 88 is the bastard year of d series... my 88 crx had this problem... just ended up bolting a 91 si trans onto my 97 y8/y7 mini me...good luck

Use either/or. A friend and I put the 212 flywheel and clutch disc into his 89 si. Although, I read some where on here that you shouldnt intermix the the 200 flywheel with a 212 clutch disc or vice versa. Someone correct me if im wrong.

I'm pretty sure it's an 89 Si transmission...

I used this make sure it was an 89 when I bought it...

The transmission has one groove.

It also has PL3/3000 stamped by the fill plug which indicates that it is an Si tranny.

I'll take a picture of the groove so you can see that it has one. Unless I think what I'm seeing is a groove when in fact it's not, or something.

I went out to the garage, counted the splines, and took a few pictures.

I counted 5 times and each time I counted 20 splines.

Here are the two pictures that I took.

This is one groove right? Or, is that not a groove? Looks like a groove to me!

Here's a picture of the markings near the fill hole, you can see that it clearly says "PL3/3000" which means it is an Si tranny.

All the markings indicate that it is in fact an 89 Si tranny.... but if it IS, then why won't my 94 d16z6 clutch disk slide on there??

I think I'm going to count the splines on the clutch disk from the 94 Si tranny when I get home today.

I think there is something fishy going on here. Everyone is telling me that it should fit, but the disk will not slide on there.

I tried two 92-95 clutch disks... one old one that I pulled out of my car (95 Ex), and one I pulled out of a 94 Si engine. I removed both of these clutches myself. Neither of them worked.
