Default I'm an IDIOT.... big F up inside.

Man oh man...I just got home from all this, so if any sentences are incoherent, or words misspelled, please excuse it.

Anyways, I started driving my new CRX last Monday. No big deal I'm super happy and everything. That day I heard a slight knock from the front end while I'm coasting, under accel. and decel/braking no noise, so I don't pay too much attention. After reading up on here about the noise, it sounded just like a steering rack bushing..you know the cheap one that everybody ends up replacing. Well as time progresses it gets a little louder, so I have my dad (an ex-Honda certified mechanic, who has built and raced a couple CRX's) ride with me and listen to it, he says it is 99% likely the inner CV joint going bad, so I say, well no fixing it til I get paid (my payday is TOMORROW) and just nurse the car to and from work. Today I decide to go to my g/f's softball game since it isn't far out of my way, and I had promised her I would go. About half-way there I notice it had started knocking constantly and my steering was a little shaky. I should have figured it out right then, but I decide it'll make it. As I go another, oh, say 500 feet, it gets worse, so I turn off to a side street, and then start to turn onto another little back street to check things out. As I'm turning the last time the **** hit the fan. All of a sudden the driver's side front SLAMS to the ground and I see the wheel go rolling away. Anyways after about 15 minutes of loud obscenities I have retrieved the tire, and put it back on using 1 lug nut from each of the other wheels... I cannot BELIEVE how stupid I was not to check the lug nuts to begin with!!! So now I have a very fucked up fender to tend to, and a wheel stud to replace. Pics coming.

Feel free to E-Slap me for being a dumbass.

Cliffs- Misdiagnosed front-end noise, lug nuts loosened, lost wheel, fucked up fender.

Wow, glad you are OK. I did the same with my Ek a while back. I was driving around at 14 PSI on my B16a and I though my axle was bad. The car was shaking badly. I was about to replace the axle and noticed the lugs were all loose. I felt lucky to be alive and so should you.

These are always the worst kind of mistakes. All you can do is learn from them. Good luck with the repair, and don't get discouraged.

Don't feel too bad man, I've done that too... Only with me it was when I sold someone a car that they put on a tow dolely, and it was a back tire that dropped, ruined the entire hub so feel lucky.

in his defense, he *thought* i was smart enough to have already checked those

besides, he's old and bitter and doesn't like cars anymore. lol

btw- that picture, while initially disturbing, is hilarious.

anyways- update. grand total to fix the running gear- 1.99 at AZ for a new Wheel stud. i just bent the fender back pretty close to right by hand, and took the inner fender off. I'll source another fender somewhere and when I have the car repainted it'll go on and be nice and smooth and purty.

Same thing ALMOST happened to me. I kept hearing this wierd clicking noise. So I thought it was my axle. But I had just replaced the axle a couple days before...
So I looked at the axles and they were both fine.

Then for some reason I decided to check the lugs, and I was able to turn the lug nuts on my driver side wheel with my fingers!!! I think this old guy from a repair shop left my lugs loose because earlier that day I went there to get tires mounted. And he scratched my rims and we got into a big argument. And I noticed my loose lugs later that same day.

Now I'm super **** about it and I check them every couple days

Those are absolutely correct. Yeah.

Good that you are alright, and that it happended in slow speed.

I'll suspected that also some times, But too lazy to check and im trusting myself that i torqued them last time tire was off.
