How DO you.... Remove a stuck axle? Tips? Pointers? Prayers?
I have a 94 LS and my axle is broken and stuck on the driverside. I was wondering if any of you car gurus know any tips to get this sucker out. Ive tried hammering and using my brute manly strength but i guess it just wasnt enough. Ive searched and read tips like hitting it with a sledge hammer but that sounds kinda scary. I searched a little more and heard that a large gear puller would help.
What is your advice? ANY help at all would be helpful because youd just be bumping my thread until i found the best answer.
thank you.

thank you.
Which part of the axle? The part that goes into the hub or the intermediate shaft? The hub part can be busted out with some lube spray and a hammer. The intermediate side you'll need a hammer and a short pry bar or flat head screwdriver.

the intermediate shaft. I used a hammer, and even went to lowes to buy a short pry bar, and a flat head screwdriver... nothing worked! maybe im too weak. i think ill try wd-40 and a large gear puller. Any more advice?? Ive done this before on this axle but for reason this time this axle aint havin it.

Prybars wont get it out of the intermeditate shaft. Only way to get it out is to hammer it out. You have to give it 3 good hits at one spot then turn it and hit it again turn and repeat to break it loose. First time took me almost a 1/2 hour of straight hitting. After that it was cake, now it takes 5 mins to take it off.
Did you try what i told you? Would you like me to go out there and do it for you? Or think you could bring it here, if so i could pop it off and put it back on so its easier to put back so you could drive home.

no i didnt try what u told me yet. im just at work trying to gather as much info as possible so that im more prepared when i have time to work on it. i still need b series axles and an upper control arm before i can start on it. (anyone?) Ill be free on saturday so thats possibly when im going to try it out. And if i still cant do it, ill be sure to shoot u a PM loser kid thank you
try to use two prybars 180 degrees apart from each other. sometimes trying to remove the axle by one point only will put tension on the opposite side and cause it to bind
I just used a 3/8s flat blade screw driver and got in between the axle and the trans on the top and bottom, then pointed the blade sorta out to the side, and just beat on the screwdriver until it popped out. Once you get it loose, you can usually just hook the edge and pop it out a lot easier the next time.
I had an extremely stubborn axle once too! Get the biggest pry bar you can find (I had to go and buy a 2.5ft pry bar) and pry, rotate, pry, rotate until it eases out. It just takes time and patience.
If you are working under jack stands, try getting the car higher up. It makes it easier to attack that axle from more angles (especially with a long pry bar)
