Paint scheme for a track car?
I have a CRX track car. Not a full race, 10pt cage, non-street legal car, but a street legal CRX w/ a b18c engine swap and roll bar dedicated for track use.
The paint looks awful and I will either be repainting or severely touching it up, and I want to know if I should go with stock looking paint and have all the numbers and SCCA stickers etc. as magnets, or do a race paint job with stripes, stickers on the body etc.
My concern with race paint scheme is undue attention from the police, and hostile neighbors who may think it is ugly. Anyone have any positive/negative experiences just because of their paint?

Numbers and graphics WILL draw attention from the police. Thats about the only downside. A local guy used to race a SSC Neon ACR and also drove it back and forth to work daily. It had alot of vinyl on it with permanent numbers. He got his 3rd ticket in a year doing 69mph in a 65 zone. He quit daily driving it shortly after that.
Of course, magnetics tend to fly off at 125mph, so there is that problem.

My car is painted in such a way that the blue and yellow match the colors of available duct tape (clears throat) uhm I mean "racer tape". Excellent for quick repairs.
Car is yellow and not street legal... though the thought crossed my mind about making it street legal... it gets better gas mileage then any of the other registered vehicles we have.

It really depends on whether your car is a dedicated track car or a dual purpose. A cool paint scheme for a dedicated autox car certainly will turn heads. Being low contact it means your paint will stay spiffy longer. For a track car I would go with a color scheme that you can find in a rattle can and duct tape for. You will make contact on track and it'll be a lot harder to clean it up and restore it if its an intricate paint job.
I run my autocross numbers permenantly on the side of my Si and surprisingly I don't get hassled by the police. Sure, they give me a second look when they pass but they dont hassle me.
I still drive the car in my avatar on the street pretty regularly and I don't have a lot of police trouble around town. I generally drive 5-10 over the speed limit and I have not been pulled over any more than when the car wore stock paint. One thing to be aware of though. If you're driving on the interstate the old "follow someone faster and let them get the ticket" trick doesn't work anymore. You WILL be the car picked out of a group of ten.

On a Honda? Naw .. no1 will notice a Honda with stickers on it. Pretty much the norm these days.
No1 even gave my car a second glance the handful of time I drive it. On the trailer though, it gets way more attention. Donno why. Maybe some Doc will write on book on the ricer Psyche so we can know what they are thinking.

Three throughts:
A) single color body panels- when you have to replace one, it makes it easier
B) match a commonly avaiable spray paint - GM Fleet white is the same as rustoluem.
C) It was said, but match racer's tape colors.

Oh yeah, I've lost count of how many times I've been reved on while TOWING the car. Like I'm going to run somebody with 4000 damned pounds behind the rear bumper.
Sad thing is that my Tundra would probably take half these ********* with a rolling start.
