do many muffler shops have mandrel benders?
Super rare, your not going to find a regular muffler shop with one.
Out of all of LA and OC (which is HUGE!) i only heard of 2 MUFFLER SHOPS with them. Youll have more luck with fabericators, welders, construction shops then muffler shops.

Mandrel benders are in the 10's of thousands. So no, mom/pop shops won't have one. Crush benders is all you will find.
Look up KTELLER on here for custom piping.

just call and ask. your best bet is trying places that do custom work. places that do stock repair only usually only have crush benders

crush bend pips in using a small diameter dont get too much ripples. I had exhaust put on by James Dean Mufflers in Countryside, IL and he used 2.25 inch piping and doesnt have any =] though i know that 3inch does start to get bad ripples

If you're not a hardcore racer, I don't see a point between crush and mandrel
The flow difference is so little.
I would just get a crush bend, because it's not worth the extra money.
Why spend 300 on a custom exhaust, when you can get it done for as little as 100
