Default Type S Pistons Vs JDM H22A Pistons

Ok I am doing a rebuild on my block..Before I do this I was wondering if I should stay with my jdm h22a pistons or if I should go out and get the type s pistons? Is there any real power difference? and is it worth it?

they pretty much cost the same as any other new oem piston and if you want a little more compression they are good to have.

I dont have to bore the block to put in these pistons right? should they just fit right in?

i do believe the type s cams are stockish. if you are going to bump the compression to 11, i would look into some stage 2 cams. of course if you had money Jun cams.

449

I just found out about them today......but i'll definately get them....you don't have to sleeve the block

here's the link - http://www.importperformancepa....html

Along with high compression valves - and a thin *** head gasket....you could make a decent NA application without a sleeved block.

get them and let us know if you start losing compression from the walls getting scraped up.

If I didn't already go 25 over on my spare H22 block (has a fluffed cylinder wall) I would risk the 450 to try. So if somone wants to donate one, I will try it

they have 87mm and 87.25mm bore - i heard they were actually pretty decent.....they came out with them almost a year ago - i'm sure if they had any callbacks - they would have taken care of them.

they have had callbacks. They had to redesign the valve reliefs.

Exactly - meaning everythings adjusted now. I'll trust them - i'm going to buy some eventually - i need to buy a new valvetrain first.

I have the oversized Type S in along with a lighter weight flywheel. The general manager of the local honda dealership who I know really well came to my shop today to get Sirius put into his Pilot. He asked to use my car and I said sure. When he got back he said "there's something definantly different with your prelude. All the other one's I've ever driven seem sorta doggish off the line and don't seem to have as much midrange as yours". He didn't take it over 4000 so I don't know what his judgement of the VTEC range was like... but other than the typical intake, exhaust... all I have done are the mods listed above and an Erick's Racing 68mm TB. Oh, my 2ndary O2 is throwing a CEL too so if that was fixed maybe it'd feel better. So I say if you're looking for something you don't have to sleeve for and all the other parts and labor, the type S do make a difference even with stock cams. I went with the oversized as I said so I can't really speak for the standard type S

Yeah - i think either would work as they are the same compression - but type-s are definately proven to work. I say get some different cams and new springs, retainers, valves- and what not, and you're on your way to good WHP..........I'm going with Skunk2 Stage II cams.......and the 11.5:1 pistons - i need to raise the compression to 12:1 though - some how.

Thats wrong bro. There is :

Stock:
A or B cylinders. A cylinders are slighlty, and I mean slighly bigger then the B cylinders, like .05 bigger..

Overbore:
.25 over

Edited: I was wrong about which was larger..

Yes they will. H22A4 or equivalent rods are usually preferred.
