Default V6 or 4cyl?

Hey guys, im not lookng into 6th gens. I have one problem though, i cant decide between a 4cyl or a V6.

I started to look at 4cyls and thought about boosting it next summer, but i dunno if i want to because of insurance reasons, and not being able to cover it. I would want to get power outta the 4cyl, but boosting it seems to be the only major way of doing that. It also costs a lot. Im also 16, so i dont wanna kill myself. I know I/H/E, but i would want something more.

Then i started to think about V6s, im not to familiar with them though. I thought about just doing I/H/E, if you can? Also, i was also going to do some suspension. I would have also done suspension with the 4cyl btw. Anyways, i thought that maybe with the V6 i could have a nice DD, that would be fun to drive, but i still kinda wanna boost a 4cyl.

I really dont know which to choose. Its basically, V6 = fun DD, also getting into the appearance. 4cyl = (later) boost maybe?

Hopefully some of you guys have some input. Thanks.

I think that V6 is a waste of gas.... it's bullshit
Also.... a 4 cylinder.... is a smaller engine... better to work with.. because there's more space to work on.... and.. ...parts for 4cy are easier to find... as well as a price difference!
V6.... .........not if I were you!

The problem with the V6 is a lot of people run into problems with the Auto trannys.

Yea, the aftermarket is limited, but Comptech makes a supercharger, and you can do the CL-S swap (and blow that too).

There's potential, and problems that could go wrong, but it's not the WORST platform you could mess with....it's just the 4 cyl has more potential.

Ah, yea i completely forgot about gas. Im getting a 5spd btw. I know about the comptech sc but its way too much money. I also wouldnt do the any swaps, way too high of a risk. I guess ill just stick the the 4cyl. Hopefully i will have enough exp. and money to boost it by next summer.

Thanks guys.

unfortuantley, the v6 is heavier, has an extremly weak auto tranny, and the 4mpg equates to quiet a bit over the course of the year....not sure about 6th gens, but with the 5th gen's, the 4cyl actually has quicker 0-60 and 1/4 mile times

whoever said V6 is BS has got something wrong...I own the I4 version of the accord and my friend owns the v6 and I would rather have the V6 any day of the week. quieter and the engine does not have to work in the upper rpm range to get the car to move at a decent pace. The 7th gen accords are all either 5sp manual 5 sp auto or 6sp manual (V6). If I could I would get a 5th gen V6 and transplant the 03 or newer accord V6 into it. talk about a car that would be sweet.

I get 32mpg at 80 with my 2.2L but my friend gets a quieter ride.......

statistically speaking the V6 accord tranny is not any weaker than an american auto trans with a failure rate just under 5% normal failure rate for honda tranny is about 2.5% Ford has a failure rate of 5.2 % for the same time period on it's taurus/sable line. Difference is honda does not want 5% failure rate and will cover the trans for 100K. My friend has a 99 accord V6 with well over 150K on it and the auto trans is still shifting like the day it was new. (her car was made in Japan)

People who have an I4 will tell you to get an I4. People with a V6 will tell you to get a V6. I have had both and the I pick V6. (You don't need to add anything to boost the power).

not only that, less maint is required on the V6 engine it't self timing belt good for 120K, usually no need to adjust valves, etc. So what if the V6 accord is 200lbs heavier it has 75 more hp to more than offset that weight increase and I know for sure that even with a 5sp the stock inline 4 isn't gonna get you to 60mph in the 6 second range like the V6 can. The new V6 are very nice and I am saving up my $ to get one early next year.

I think if its for daily driving go with the 4 cyl, but if its only weekend driving or driving once in awhile go with the V6. And 4MPG adds up in the long run and if your using super. Well not to get of the topic, but for 6th gen V6 I heard alot of people say there are problem with the V6's. But exactly what is the problem and what is the percentage of failure?

see previous posting about auto trans. Accord V6 runs on 87 and if you use anything else, engine output will drop.

Well, yes, I do have an I4 ('99 LX), and I recommend the I4, but only if you get a 5-speed manual transmission.

I remember from the reviews of the 6th generation was that one of the complaints was that the car was sluggish. That was simply because they were testing cars with automatic transmission. My 5-speed manual transmission is very peppy, I really like it. Plus you'll get better gas mileage, and (check with your insurance agent) but I'm pretty sure the I4 will be cheaper to insure than the V6.

I say if you are looking to modify the car a lot, go with the 4 since there are more options to make power, and the engines are quite a bit easier to work on. If you just want a nice car o pimp around, drive them both, see if you need the extra power of the V6 or if you can be content with the 4. I use my accord for commuting and have two other cars that get terrible mileage, so the 4 was right up my alley. Good gas mileage, used regular, big enough for 4 people and all around comfortable for commuting. Power wasn't really a requirement.

everything people said are valid. but one thing i've noticed is that on the 7th gens, so far, there are more aftermarket options available for the v6's rather than 4-cyl.
