Mini Me Question!!!
I just got a head which im almost positive is a d16y8 head and I was wondering if there is any way to tell by looking at it. I know it has square combustion chambers and the z6 does not, but doesnt the cam look different too. I think the y8 cam has more lobes on it than the z6 or the lobes are alot closer looking. Any one know? Just dont want to buy parts for a y8 head if it is a z6 head. Thanks alot Pictures would help alot or any info!

Hey are the exhaust ports noticibaly square or are they like oval. Head does not have cam gear. Have you done this swap? Im planning on doing it on my d16a6 block, but i need to know what kind of head i have.
I have a 90 civic HB Si with the d16a6 motor and i bought this head off of this guy and he said it was a y8 head and when i got it i wanted to make sure it is but now i am having doubts that it isnt a y8 head. Just wanted to know whether it is a z6 or y8. You can tell it is a vtec head just not sure which one. Sorry to keep bugging you its just kinda making me mad. That punk lied to me. Oh well. It looks like the ports on the head are kinda oval looking and not really that square.
they look the same.here you go,do you know were the vtec selonoid is?when its off,the y8 head were it bolts to is flat.on the z6 head it has grooves in it.the easy way,if you distrib bolts up perfect its a y8, meaning all 3 screws line up and hold it on as the same way it does on 88-91 head,if not its a z6.
IN the picture off of ebay, the one where you are looking at the intake side. The part all the way to the right is where the vtec solenoid goes right? The head I have is real smooth and flat on the far right corner of the intake side with some holes there. So maybe it is a y8 head of somekind. I know i can check it with the dist but i dont have an extra laying around
