Engine "hunting" from 800 to 2000rpm every few seconds?
Has anyone run into this problem?
Have a '92 Accord EX, just had front-to-back exhaust replaced about two weeks ago. Since then, in Park and neutral the car is "hunting"; alternating between 800rpm and about 2000rpm every 2 or 3 seconds.
Does this while driving as well, high idle (about 1500) while sitting in drive.
Tried replaicing the O2 sensor, we tried the codes with the manual but the "check engine" light doesn't come on.
(Did ask exhaust guy, he thinks this is unrelated to what he did.)
About to give up and bring it to dealer, thought Id give a try here...
Thanks

Hey man Im a noob to this site, but my car did the same thing and its the map sensor. I had to get the code checked cause my light was on.
Before you go buying parts check all vacuum hoses especially if you don't have a CEL on. I had that problem also and it was just a small vacuum leak that caused my engine to do the same thing.
One way I have heard of checking to see if you have a vacuum leak is to light an incense and slowly wave it over your lines and intake manifold and if there is a leak it will suck the smoke in.
Troubleshoot a little more before spending a bunch of money on parts.

Last night had a little bit of a sputter and then it stopped doing it.
This is great news...if it was a sensor, it wouldn't have "fixed itself".
This is especially great news since I called the dealership and you have to buy the entire throttle body to get the MAP sensor (to the tune of $486.00!!)...no luck @ boneyards around here either.
I will check out all the vac lines. I am new to this so I really appreciate the tips!
