there are two types of cable tranny, the 90/91 small spline and the 92/93 big spline ... mostly all parts in the 92/93 fit the hydraulic, the 90/91 diffs that are 4.4 final can fit the later, howere there are some clearance issues with the housing vs. the newer casings.

So adding on to the first question. Are all hydro trans differentials and ring gears interchangeable?

No they are not.

The LS/RS/GS and the B16A (99-00 Civic Si and 94-97 Del Sol VTEC) have a small diameter diff and ring gear... with a 4.26 final drive. The GSR and Type R (B18C1 and B18C5... along with JDM/EDM/CDM equivalents) have a larger dimeter diff and ring gear, with a 4.40 or 4.785 final drive. In addition, the "pinion" paired to the ring gear is cut into the countershaft base, so even if you could interchange the ring gears, you would also have to use the corresponding countershaft.

What are you trying to do exactly ???

My question is similar. I'm trying to swap differentials between:

A. USDM YS1 (92-93) Integra trans
B. JDM XSi/GSR YS1 (92-93) Integra trans

Both are big spline cable transaxles, but i believe (A) has a 4.266FD open differential while (B) has a 4.4FD with OEM honda LSD. I'd like to put the differential from B into A, and A into B (making it basically a standard USDM GSR tranny).

Is this a straight swap?

It should be. I'm no expert but they share all the same parts (size and FD) just one diff is open and the other is LSD

It may have a different bolt pattern as some of the factory B16 lsds had many more smaller bolts to hold the ring gear on. If the diff has the different bolt pattern you will need to swap the ring gear and countershaft as well to be safe.

So if the 92 93 diffs are the same between ls' s are the cointershafts the same too so u can slide different gears on like the 94+ hydros

Don't forget the ring gear bolts are reverse thread and tq down higher than other 17 mm head bolts I forgot off hand
