what do you guys think is a beter swap for an ef. considering ease if instalation, cost, time, dollar/hp, how easy it is to modify after its intalled, etc. i know that everyone has an opinion on this one.

the k motor has the torque numbers of an h and revs as fast as a b...plus i think that the k motor has been embraced more so than the h motor and will get a lot more aftermarket support...either of them in an ef is gonna pull hard... so my vote goes to the k
We'll find out.
Sometime before christmas it'll be my setup Vs. Ryans
Nikozai: H22 mild port and polish with intake matched and larger TB, correctly tuned P28 w/B16 tranny, (LS 5th gear for streetability)
Droppedcrxsi: K20a, maybe KPro but probably not.
I'm confident i'll keep up.
- costs -
I'm lookin at $3000
Ryans already at 7,500 and he still needs an ECU, header, and possibly a new front x-member, trying to clear the jimfab right now. And a radiator too..
so hes lookin at 10k.
And for the record, H22 with H-series tranny, is no comparison to the K20. It sucks *** IMO

not everyone is a chubby chaser...H series is a fatty
K series is jsut a transvestite of powere and weight...
And i think ryan's setup is gonna pull.....But ****...A well done h22 swap....is so impressive....only seen one on this site and there was talk of stringlines and angle finders...that has some serious blood/tear/sweat into it....

30014 - K20A (RSX Type R) Motor, Tranny, ECU
220 Hp 158Trq 11.5 Compression (JDM)
$ 5600.00 Plus shipping and handling.
30015 - H22A 92-95 Motor, Tranny, Computer
200Hp 161Trq 10.6 Compression (JDM)
190Hp 156Trq 10.0 Compression (USDM)
$ 1950.00 Plus shipping and handling.
How is there any real comparison?
Of course the k20 has more potential but when the dollar/hp comes into the conversation I do not see any comparison.

edit: we are actually discussing the thought of a decade old motor design vs. the greatest motor (in my mind) that Honda has ever built (so far) all dropped into a 15 year old chassis. we suck @ life...you all know that right?
wait a minute here...if were all comparing the K to the H in an ef chassis we should "assume" $$$$ is not an issue.
- both require cutting the chassis
- both require custom one-off or exspensive motor mounts
- both require an aftermarket cross member
- both require custom wiring/adapting/repinning of the factory harness
this is comparing a brand new shiny *** cherry apple fallen right off the tree with a little leaf attached to the stem vs. this old *** wrinkly green apple thats been sitting at the bottom of your backpack and its a little bigger.
these are important things i would consider:
- your gonna have fitment issues with forced induction w/ both swaps
- h series you'll need an adapter plate if you wanna run a CABLE b-series tranny
- k you MUST run a hydro-tranny system (pedal assembly, hard lines, cmc, etc.)
- both are gonna have clearence issues on bottom and up top, k more than h
- k efficiency triumphs the h when it comes to power:fuel economy
- tunning a kpro equipped kseries > tunning a ____ equipped hseries
thats off the top of ma dome. man if i spent some time on this im almost SURE the k benifits overlap the h's and the h's trouble shooting problems overlap the k's.
both these swaps have yet to come close to the power:$$$ ratio of a b-swap.
correct me if i made any info. errors

This actually a good question here. The shitty part is that a K-Series swap is gonna cost near double, if not more, than an H-Series swap. The only reason I voted Kis because it's already 10 years newer and B-Series wasn't a choice. I'm sure you can get an H22 running in your CRX for less than the cost of buying a K24 but it seems to me that H-series haven't the support over the last 10 years that I see the K getting now.
Think about it this way: The H22 came out in what, 92? Imagine what would be going through your head when the thought of forcing that in there was. Now it's 2005 and the K Series haven't been out that long and they already have a mount kit to put it into a CRX. It's obviously being favored right off the bat. Note that HASport still doesn't have the H22 mount kit available yet.

K series motors... at least in the Road Race world... need to have built bottom ends... for that "power" potiential you guys are talking about... Real Time Racing went with K24s and not K20s.... there is a reason.
Small fortune the H beats the K because it will put down maybe 10% less power but its going to be more reliable especially wtih the B trans
LARGE RTR budget... K wins... because once your only using the honda blocks
the technology takes over....

1. the EF chassis is still a consistant performer on the street and all the tracks... 15 years old ... we dont tear subframes like the others.
2. if the K series is the best motor honda ever built in your mind... you are crazy! We didnt actually measure, since the only d series rod i had was a snapped one... but the K rods arent any bigger than the d series rods...
dont worry about us bench racing the H vs the K... or us wanting to put them in 15 year old cars... worry about honda keeping the K (200hp) rods the same size as the D series (100hp) rods.... the best motor honda every built! my ***!
edit: i think honda rushed the K series out... plain and simple. the new generations will be better... but you dont see the failures out of the B16a as you do the K20a... Plus i think they went away from revs to displacement... not a good game to play when you are keeping them 4 cylinder motors for the most part.

K series I-VTEC engine is awesome, no doubt. K20 from Civic type R or the K24 from accord. Both lovely engines. But the $, yeah its very expensive swap.
I think i would run H22 instead of K- series becouse the money. Thats always important.

H series definetly, any engine has potential its a matter of how much you have $ and how much power you can get out of it. K series is just newer technology but that doesnt mean its better. I do not like the overall design of the K series engine. H series, half the price, more parts, more power can be obtained. The right order B series, H series, K series !

I don't care what someone thinks but cost is the only variable in this option. Cost fixes everything. There are things about both engines I like. most of which has been talked about. Why doesn't someone just do a spread sheet of which one is better listing the pro's and cons?
Either way, both are good swaps, just one has more of a favor than others to some people.
