Another Goodbye
Well, I sold my Type-R (#00-463) last month. Bought her new in February 2000 with 7 miles on the odometer. To my regret I never actually tracked her, though I did spend about forty weekend afternoons on Mines Road between from San Jose and Livermore - 50 miles each way of the most amazing driving roads I have ever seen. Despite driving the snot out of her for 33k miles (was just starting on my fourth set of tyres when I sold her), nothing went wrong in those 5+ years.
Sold her on consignment for $17k, which I was very happy with. Basically, dropped the car off at a dealer before heading on a two-week holiday, and when I came back it was sold. I tried selling privately and could possibly have netted $1-$2k more if I had patience (though I am not convinced), but dealing with all the tire kickers, fantasizers, and low ballers was not worth the hassle.
Oddly, I don't miss her. I think I started to get tired of her about two years ago when I bought a '97 328i BMW as a daily driver. Sure the BMW was slightly slower (though it seemed faster because of the torque), and did not handle as well (though it did have RWD to compensate and the difference was not huge), but, unless the drive involved Mines Road, there was just no reason to chose the R over the BMW. Last year I bought a stock '93 R1 RX-7 to replace the BMW and after that there really was no reason to drive the R at all. The RX-7 handled better, cruised almost silently at 80-90mph, and was hugely faster. One stomp on the throttle made every 2 1/4" vs. 2 1/2" header thread seem deeply quaint.
I think I will miss the honda-tech ITR board more than the car. It is easily the highest quality car board I have hung out on. Like most sites, it is inflicted with a seemingly infinite number of morons who will happily wander onto a model-specific board with over one million posts and ask what sort of tyres or exhaust they should buy - as though such a question could never possibly have been asked before. In general, however, the technical content is very high and there are a lot of people here who know quite a bit. I learned a lot here.

Take care.
I dont understand why people think if they sell their R they have to leave this forum? Its sad. Through all the times this forum has helped me, I will be here for life with or without a Honda.

I sold my R, but I browse the forum at least once/twice a week. Haven't been banned...yet.
My cousin has a 94 RX-7. I haven't been able to drive it, because it's always in the shop. Hope you have/have had better luck with yours.
