Those of you who've stepped down? C of G's?
Quick Questions:
I am considering buy a 600 once all the 06's come out. I have only ever owned a 750. However I have ridden on almost every 600 on the market right now. They are seem to feel slow. I know the dealer is sappose to tell me this but they are constantly telling me I will be dissappointed if i downgrade to a 600. They are trying to sell me a 1000 of course.
1. My question is, those of you who have stepped down from a a bigger bike, How do you feel about the smaller cc bikes??
I know immortal went down from his 1000rr to a gsxr-600 but said the C of G is lower on the gixxer which makes it nicer for stunts but doesn't have the jam of the 1000...
Riding my buddies R6 quite a bit and it feels like it has no ***** at all below 10,000 rpms, where my bike kicks in at about 6,000...maybe its time that i go V-twin??
2. I know there are ALOT of factors that contribute to C of G but would a V-Twin generally have a lower C of G or higher?? (say RC 51 compaired to 1000rr)?

maybe i'm an idiot, or just confused .. but wtf are you talking about?
edit: and since someone will say it, might as well be me .... going from a 1000cc to a 600cc is in no way a "downgrade"

He's talking about center of gravity. Every bike is different, you really have to ride em to find out, but I dont know many people that will let you ride their bike so you can go wheelie it.

Yeh exactly, But im sure there has to be a website that has center of gravity's listed on it, either that or a forumula that allows your to equate to the C of G, I know with aeroplanes its something like your moment in inches multiplied by your gross weight that gives you your C of G in inches....manye someone will know...

Well i guess downgrade is the wrong word, maybe something like change? heh....im just curious before i go and buy a brand new bike again if I am going to be setting myself up for a letdown...I don't want to be dissappinted by going from my gixxer to a 600rr that weights more and has less power and cruises at higher rpms on highway....i sappose its not an awnserable question, i was just curious to see what others whove went from bigger bikes down to 600s have thought about it thats all

its all comes down to what you like. If you dont like the feel of 600's, dont get it. If you do trackdays, a smaller bike will vastly improve your riding skills. Try some twins since you like the low end grunt.
If you think cruising on the freeways suck with a 600, you should of tried my 400 (10k rpm @ 80mph). I think any of the new 600's have more power than anyone really needs.

Because you can just lope around town at lower revs, due to the fact that your engine is almost twice as big. You don't have to rev the crap out of the bike, as you do with a 600 (comparitively).
To Gixxerfiend - V-twin bikes do have superior weight distribution. That's just the way it is. Although I don't know if that's going to be enough incentive for you to ditch your bike.

alot of my riding is highway riding, at 70-90+ MPH, being at 10,000 rpms on a 600 at these speeds is just plain stupid. I like cruising on my gixxer at highway speeds and being able to accelerate in 6th gear enough to pass a semi truck....riding on my buddies R6 is a pain in the *** cause you have to double and sometimes triple downshift.
I am going to go ride a 2005 RC51 on friday pete, cause I love that low end grunt on the highways, plus the sound a v-twin rumble makes me very excited, hahah, my friends tell me im getting old cause i don't like the scream of my inline anymore. and i bitch about my buddies r6 with a D&D pipe and tell him to put it back to stock every time i ride with him...
All the tracks here a very far away so i can't see myself doing track days anytime soon, but if i was going to track regualrly i wouldn't even consider anything bigger than a 600..
Thanks alot guys for the educated opinions.....if anyone knows any C of G formulas that would be great...i'll let you guys know how i like the RC51

You think that the 600's are slower because they lack the torque that your 750 has. Plus 600's are generally geared for the power that is made in the higher rpms. Basically they don't have the power or the correct gearing for low rpm driving, but get in the power and you are going be accelerating about as fast a 750. I feel ya on the highway thing...I hate downshifting to accelerate but it's not so bad as to where I feel unsafe.
I think that since you are saying that the 600's are too slow you will never be happy with it. I vote stick with another 750 or try a twin, maybe an aprilla....

Yeh its defently the torque thing...Aprilla, DAMN i wish i had the money, I was thinking possibly buell?? there isn't alot of japanese twins on the market that are geared towards the agressive riders market...ducati and aprilla are AMAZING bikes but im lookin at another $15,000 too and ive heard the maintaince on those things is outrageous...so im considering buells...and sv1000's but i hear the SV's have crap suspension (at least the 650's) but i could rock full ohlins suspension & brembo radial brakes and tune it on a sv1000 for same price as a new RC51...
edit: I hear the SV1000 is the way to go for V-twin
much cheaper than RC51 and same level of performance..

revalve the front end, or swap out a k3 gixxer front end. swap out the rear for a gixxer 1000 or a zx10r rear shock(not sure but i think it works) or if you want to be a baller get a ohlins or penske. for track use i would also suggest new rearsets/clipons and a 2-1 exhaust check out m4 or yosh. it drops about 10 lbs. plus the 05 black on black is just fuggin sick.

Kick *** holigin bike
.....
I guess the SV would be the way to go if you want to stay big 4.

Excuse my laziness (didn't read every post), but what are you looking to get the bike for?
I went from a 600 (GSXR) to a 954 and then back to a 600 (600RR). I had the 954 and my recent 600 simultaneously at one point. I bought the 600 mainly for canyons/track. My purpose was different for each bike, and so was my riding technique. On the track I like reving the **** out of my 600, hitting the brakes, and getting back on the throttle w/o having to worry too much of losing traction out of the turn. I just hate seeing liter bikes at the track going full blast down the straight and then riding like a grandma thru the turns. Being "scared" of your bike can only hinder your progression. I like to ride my bike, not the bike ride me.
On the other hand when I cruise around the streets, or when I want to be a squid
, I truly miss the power of a bigger bike. The insane low-end torque never fails to put a smile on my face.

I think you'd be disappointed if you downgraded to a 600 after riding a 750 for a while. Thats how I'd feel. ie: Whenever my fren wants to ride my 1000rr or my 929rr, and I gotta ride his r6 .. its just a different feeling when you pull the throttle. Don't get me wrong tho, the 600's you could bang the rpm's longer cause they have high rpm's, but the pull is not there like a 1000 would have. But, whenever I ride my Pop's Busa, damn thats just another chapter to get into w/ that 1300. Thats just me. So to answer your Q, I wouldn't downgrade, I would upgrade or just stay where you are.

This is just my personal opinion having owned 4 600's, 1 1100. and 1 1000, you have already had the perfect size, why change? Thee 750 is the best balance of low end power/low centrifical force due to engine mass and in the right hands can get around the track quicker than a 1000 or a 600. If I were you, I wouldn't move either way unless you are trying to compete in WERA races or something like that where the 750 class is the most competitive/expert class. If you are just a weekend canyon carver and rider, the 750 is the perfect bike.

Granted I just got my bike but I have been riding around town the passed 2 days with no problem staying under 8k rpm with tons of power.. Maybe it's just me but doing 0-60 at every stop light in town in 4 seconds seems kind of stupid. I bought my bike for fun and fuel economy and if you're riding aroudn town why do you need to be taking it to 14k at every straightaway..?

There ya go
If you get a chance to ride a bigger bike, you'll see what I'm talking about. The 600 will get up to speed quickly, for sure, but it labors in doing so, much more than a litre.
