Upshift indicator
Guys, I've got a minor problem. My upshift indicator lights up when the key is turned to and past Accessory, but as I accelerate through the gears it doesnt light up. I've seen many ways to wire a DIY upshift light, but why bother when one is already wired into my car?? Does anyone have an idea why the f**ker doesnt light up do its job? thanks guys!

how is the upshift light an idiot light?

yeah, but a shift light becomes useless if the car is modded. The shift light is supposed to tell you when to shift at the FACTORY SHIFT point. The Ideal shift point is where peak torque and HP meet on the power band. If you added some power, the factory shift light becomes useless, you are better off gettin one from a company like Auto Meter, because they have adjustable shift lights, VIA a simple rpm Pill kit. Rember, what comes on the car is only good stock, once you start modding, you gotta eventuially change half of the stuff.
HOWEVER, if you wish to keep your factory shift light, I think that the problem may be a relay, or a shorting out wire. Or, perhaps it is getting a bad signal for w/e reason.
I would recommend gettin a new adjustable shift light anyway.

the VX and HX came with an up-shift light to show the driver when to shift to get the best fuel economy. It was never used as what normally would be called a shift light. (at least not by the OEM)
if it works with the bulb check but not during normal driving, make sure that the CEL isn't on.
Next drive with your foot further away from the floor, it should light up around 2k.
if it still doesn't have the codes scanned by a local auto parts store.

Not really. The torque curve and horsepower curve are always equal at exactly 5252 RPM, no matter what. You're not going to shift at 5252 RPM every time in every gear; that's not ideal for anything. The cars equipped with upshift lights tell you when to shift for the best fuel economy.

Thanks for the info guys. I do drive an HX. All I wanted the light for was to know when to shift for best fuel economy. It's easier to see a green light lightup than looking at the tach for a certain RPM.
I found a place online that mentions a Manual Trans upshift relay. Tho, i searched through my Civic owners manual and my Haynes repair manual and neither mention any sort of relay. Which is why i turned to H-T for a little more insight.
If anyone hapens to have a clue where this relay is, pls feel free to enlighten me!

the upshift light is controlled by the ECU directly via A30. no relay.
there is a dimming circuit in the cluster that dims the light when the lights are on. but other than that it's a ground signal from the ECU that turns on the light and pulls power from the same source as the CEL and other lights in the cluster.
