Default So i'm startin to look for a Type-S

Well, until today I always thought a Type-S would be completely out of my leauge as far as money was concerned. I found an 02 Type-S with around 60k miles with a flawless interrier. They only wanted 16,950. I would be droppin around 4k down on it so I figure monthly payments should rape me too much.

mmk, heres my questions.. Is there anything I should be looking for that maybe an 02 type S would be notrious for? Rust? damage locations? etc etc. I know what to listen for as far as the motor is concerend, I'm just a little shady on anything else.

Ahh, one more question.. As of now I have a CRX w/ a B16A blah blah mid 14's 1/4... SUcky *** highway car.. 85 mph is 5k in 5th gear.

How are Type S on the highway for cruising on a 30-40 mile trip? What RPM is 80-85 in 6th gear? Is there a fuel cutoff? What gasmileage do you get on highway and city?

Thanks for any replies guys

On the highway it should be around 4 thousand in 80... I can't remember i'm usually cruise locked at 60 to work. I traded a 01 s2k for an 02 Type-S, and I have not regreted it at all. Sure it's not as fast, but it's a great daily driver.
Recently took a trip to Columbia,SC from Memphis,Tn and ended up with 36 hwy.

02-04 models have a famous transmission problem. There is a 2nd gear grinding issue and a gear popping issue when shifting to 3rd. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

80-85 in 6th gear is around 3.5k

the type-s is a bumpy ride, take a 2nd look at the roads around you b4 buying one, the bumpiness can give you a headache but for me its not bad at all, as far as gas mileage, im calculating mine right now, so yahs :/

edit: i have not yet experienced the "2nd gear grind" that ive heard of, but my 3rd gear does pop out occasionally, like... once ever 5 hours of drivin, but i quickly solved that by takin extra time and making sure im putting it 3rd strong

it really depends on how ur dealer is, they could play it off and try to find as many excuses as possible or they could agree and fix it, i havent taken mine in yet, but i have a feelin they are lazy dicks

A bumpy ride ? It's far from bumpy i'd say, and I've never had any tranny problems out of mine. I guess since I don't acutally drive mine hard at all. Cruising to work doesn't require me to "get on it" .

what he said. I was seriously thinking about getting a RSX until I read about all the tranny problems people are having, apparently with 05s also.

sounds like the dealers are not willing to fix it either, saying they can't replicate the problem . (typical dealer scam for trying to get out of fixing a car)
just google search RSX gear grinds or RSX problems.
sounds like a great car otherwise

If you think of and describle the dealer as lazy dicks I assure you, you wont be getting much from them outside of warranty especially if you approach tactfully and get a good tech and don't beat the **** out of your car(they can tell) you will get helped just fine. Treat people as you want to be treated, it goes a long way. It's like anything else though, how many people do you work with at your job that are "lazy di..s" is it you? well its that way everywhere.

i got an 02 type s 90mph is 4k gas mileage i dont know cause i dont drive regularly but i get around 300 miles to a tank of gas. the ride is smooth as hell (its at stock height for the moment). Ive never experienced anything wrong with the tranny and im at 55k. The only thing i notice about mine is that if youre not at a complete stop while putting it in reverse it grinds pretty good. all around its an awesome car that you will be alot happier with over the base model. I drove mine from tucson to san fran and it was smooth as hell.

If you are coming from a crx thats dropped the ride will be great. I have an 02 and I havent had ANY tranny issues since 09/01 when I bought it.

just to add on... in an 05 it's 4k... type-r final drive.

20 mph / 2ng gear = 3k rpm
30 mph / 3rd gear = 3k rpm
40 mph / 4th gear = 3k rpm
50 mph / 5th gear = 3k rpm
60 mph / 6th gear = 3k rpm

I'd keep looking for better deals. I love my Type-S but am selling it to downsize my debt. Mine's an '03 with 29k miles and I'm asking $17k including 18" wheels/tires, coilovers and an intake. And I've only had 2 people come look at it in the past month, even though I think it's a killer deal.

And yes, the Type-S is worth every penny. So keep looking, there are deals to be had.
