Default 94 accord lx slow acceleration & a/c problems

ok so bought a 94 accord lx 5spd. when i accelerate, there's a clicking sound from the engine (same sound u get like when the engine just ran out of gas)

before i changed the plugs, rpms would redline at like 5500 rpm, now it goes to 6k rpms. what else could it be?

also tend to almost die and come back to normal idle or sometimes die if u let go of the accelerator, think it's all related

also off topic, the a/c doesn't cool too cold, i changed the a/c compressor and charged it up, still doesn't cool as cold as other accords, what could it be?

thankx for any help

swap an h22 in there, it'll fix the accel prob

jk...

well does the CEL (check engine light) come on, check the codes it gives.

sounds like maybe knock sensor, or oxygen sensor, or MAP sensor.....

CHECK FUEL FILTER AND FUEL PRESSURE. MAY BE TIME FOR A NEW PUMP IF THE ENGINE WAS CONSTANTLY RUN DOWN TO "E" ALL THE TIME.

Verify A/C charge and make sure that there are no cloggs in the system. Also the 94-95 accords are slow to cool especially if you have a sunroof installed.

hey, thankx for the input. there's no CEL light. i drove it about 100 miles today, no CEL so far. it's back to redlining at 5500 rpm. like completely looses power after 5500.

most annoygin part is that sometimes it just dies if i let go of the gas. most times it just goes to like 200 rpm then goes back to 700 if i let go of the gas.

i'm about to change the fuel filter and plug wires. i just bought the car, after about 50 miles to the first full tank, it's at between full and 3/4 full. i'll see how fast it's running out.

i have to check the a/c still. i'll get to it this weekend
thankx yall, any other input?

This isn't an H22 buddy, Peak HP is at 5300 and the torque peak is already dropping pretty steadily at this point, shift. It's not like you have VTEC or anything anyway. Your TQ. peak is arround 4200 RPM and, unlike a VTEC head, it doesn't really flatline, it's more like a rounded hill on a dyno. Shift. Or get an H22.

When I used to push my old coupe ex up to 6200 or so, I started seeing metal shavings in the oil. It's just not worth winding out an f22 past 5.8k.

hey, i know it's not a high revving motor or anything just a reliable daily driver. but it's acting as-if the fuel cutoff is at 5500 rpm, know what i mean? i know power pretty much dies after 5k but there's something wrong with the car. just trying to figure out why it's giving a knock/ping/clicking sound when accelerating like timming belt is off, (even tho i had a mechnic check it, new belt set properly and timming is good)

also it keeps dieing at a stop.

I drive an LX and it pulls very well and has no problem reaching redline in the first 3 gears (not possible to redline in 4th) This guy is saying that his engine does not even make it to redline as it is cutting out at 5.5K

I'd check fuel and lockup on auto tranny (unless you have 5spd) sounds like it is fuel starved. Can you redline it in nuetral or does it still cut out?

why is it not possible to redline in 4th?

LX's and DX's are governed to 115 or 120 mph as far as I know, EX's are not (at least I know OBD-I EX's are not).

OK, I would have to agree with the other people in here, you either have a fuel issue or your ECU has rewired itself. We don't have knock sensor's on our cars so I don't think it could be knock causing the problem. I would get a fuel pressure guage and check that against what the manual says it should be at. Also, make sure you injectors are clean and maybe replace the fuel filter. Last resort, put in a new fuel pump.

My friend had a 94 Cougar XR7 that would pull nice and hard up until 4k where it would just sit. It turned out his fuel pump couldn't even supply enough fuel for the motor to rev past 4k rpm under full load. Maybe could be your problem?
