Default will 215/55/16's work on a 96 civic ex?

i'm replacing a blown rear 205/40/16 and i can get a pair of 215/55/16's for really cheap (less than a single 205/40/16) but i don't know if they will fit on my rims or in my wheel well. will every 16" tire fit on a 16" rim? also is it ok for me to have 205/40's on the front with 215/55's in the back? i read the faq and was still unsure if these tires will fit, i aologize for my ignorance .

Yes the tire will physically fit on the wheel, but it will probably scrub on the car. I'd look for a 215/40-16 or 205/45-16, but I know a 205/40-16 would be cheaper than those 2.
Hope that helped you out

No, that's a terrible choice. The outer diameter of the 215/55-16 is 7.9 percent larger than stock - that's a HUGE difference!

Stick with 205/45-16, which is very close to your 185/65-14 stock size (0.9 percent smaller), not 205/40-16 (4.3 percent smaller).

depending on how low your car is, it might not fit... but almost guaranteed to rub the fenders

205/45/16 is the proper size to use. I wouldn't recommend mixing them with the 205/40/16 size. For the most predictable handling you would want all 4 tires to be the same size and design, ideally the 205/45/16 size.

thanks for the relipes. the reason i'm wanting to use different tires is because i know someone who has a ton of them they bought from a mercades dealership that went out of business so i can get a pair of tires for super cheap. i just need something to last me until i can afford to get new ones. last time i went out and looked at the tired, i only found matching pairs in 215/55's but i guess i'll go look around some more and see if i can find 205/45's
