backfiring?

Default backfiring?

is backfiring bad for a car? is this when u see the flames come out of the exhaust, how does this happen what causes it i kinda like it when i see the flames come out at night can you "make" a car do this?

Backfiring is a couple things.

You can have a backfire through the intake manifold, this is usually caused by too lean of a condition or possible timing.

You can backfire out the exhaust, this is usually caused by way too rich of a condition but like above timing can cause this also. What happens is raw un-burnt fuel makes its way out into the exhaust and ignites while in the tailpipe.

If timing is the culprit in either case, then the timing would need to be pretty far off with a proper mixture.

You can set up your exhaust to do this as planned however you might look a bit ricey to do so.

sounds liek you are running rich, how are you monitoring your fuel mixture? I recomend a wideband for tuning, a nice decent one can be had for under 300.00

ya sry just saw that after i posted, what makes a car run rich, fuel pressure? also what does a test pipe have to do with anything?
