qustion about F3 seat.
Ok i have a 96 F3. For those who don't know the front seat and back seat are connected. I was wondering if anyone ever seen a conversion that make the front and back seats seperate and maybe even have a storage compartment. I've only found one conversion for the f3 and that is the conversion to change it to just one front seat for racing.
never thought of that. Do u know if the plastics would line right up where i could do it myself or do u think its gonna need some fabrication and have to be done by a shop
IIRC, someone on this board has done the F4i tail conversion. Do a bit of searching, and I'm sure you'll find it.
It's not a straight swap, but it can be done with a bit of ingenuity. Or if you're like me, tons of duct tape.

Before you go doing this seat swap go and sit on an f4i or 929 or whatever you plan on doing the tail section swap with.
If I remember correctly isn't seat comfort on the f4/f4i always a gripe from owners? I know the seat on the 929 sucks in comparison to the f3.
Personally I would keep it as is because with the f4i tail section conversion it leaves a large portion of the subframe exposed and imho it looks like crap. Another option would be to do the 97-98 tail section conversion.
It is up to you however you go.

Also for trunks look into md wright's f2/f3 trunk kit or a tail locker.
I had a tail locker on my f3 and the fit/finish is lacking. The plastic material stress cracked and fell apart.

The tail locker you mention, is it the same one that can be seen in the advertisment section of motorcycle mags? I considered getting one of those, but was worried about it falling apart.

Here is one where i found where a guy put an f4i rear on an f2. it looks awesome and it doesn't look to hard. this is gonna be my project this winter along with painting the bike black.

I would assume so. I have only found two kits for the 91-96 cbr 600's, the md wright kit and the tail locker.
Here is a pic I found online of it:

A hard bounce on the tailsection and the lock mechanism would fall open. Lets say from a wheelie or an endo..... There were plenty of times that regular riding on a bumpy road would cause the tail to fall open and my soda/gatorade go bouncing out..... I taped my paperwork in the tail locker so I wouldn't loose it.
Also the plastic gets brittle and breaks near the mounting points. The kit provides rubber grommets but it doesnt help. The bike was garage kept but it is a little warm here in florida.....
After it broke I plastic welded it back together and fiberglassed the whole top piece. When I wrecked the last time it broke worse so I just tossed it in the trash.
(I got it for 10 or 15 in the clearance bin at moto depot or whatever the motorcycle place was called in pinellas park a few yrs back.)
After my wreck I upgraded to the 97-98 tailsection. I bought the 97 white black neon orange tail and removed all stickers.
Anyways the under tray I purchased off ebay to complete the tail conversion had the md wright trunk piece in it. The plastic is much more durable. I would suggest that over the tail locker kit plus I think it is cheaper.
The only thing I have heard bad about the md wright kit is the release mechanisms leave a little bit of freeplay on the seat. Meaning you can wiggle it a little bit. With a little tinkering I am sure that could be solved.
Let me know if you have any more questions. I don't think I had any pictures of my bike with it on though.

BTW: I thought you sold your f3?
and 88crxB16a it doesnt look too bad for that conversion if you have a set of 97-98 f3 tails to cut up as well as a f4i tail to cut up. Also you need a welder to fab all the custom brackets, and you have to be able to do fiberglass work to mold the three tail section pieces together. To make it look good, I would not suggest this to anyone who hasn't worked with fiberglass before.
But that's just me.

Yeah, but when I had it, I wanted to do lots of stuff to her. The tail locker was #1 on my list just before I sold the F3.
Thanks for the info!
I'm glad I didn't get that trunk kit.

i'm not gonna put that lid on my bike. I'm gonna do the f4i rear conversion and under the rear seat i'm gonna make a box out of sheetmetal and a cover and paint it black.. Should work great and u shouldn't be able to see it with the rear plastics on.
