manual steering rack install Question
I am about to buy a civic cx manaul steering rack, I seen post here that said it gives 2-3 whp. And more solid feel on turns. For those ppl who have it, how do you like it? And also is everyday driving really hard? HOw hard is the install? Do i need new bracket or anything else??
Thanx

As I am sure you know, the steering rack itself does not give any horsepower. Removing the power steering belt alone will give you that. It only takes 3 minutes and provides an instant 3-5 whp (I have no verification of this - just what I have read). The CX rack will also have a slower ratio than the stock ITR rack.
Try a search for some more information.

if you want to spin your steering wheel more times lock to lock with a civic rack i guess go ahead. ive done 3 cars where ive retained the stock rack but just converted it to a manual rack. this is the best way to go.
in the end throttle response is way better without the AC and PS!

This board *is* very helpful. Nobody owes you an answer. Very few people have actually done this swap so there is a not a large body on knowledge on it.
I think Mike K did the CX swap on his ITR. Ask him or possibly Vetega if he's drivin Mike's car.
*CX rack
*CX rack to column joint
*CX rack bushing
*Integra rack bushing
All bolts up no problem. Yank yours out, and throw the new one in. You need the CX joint because the spline is different on the Integra, and it won't fit.
Also, the threaded holes meant for the P/S rack bushing is way bigger than the CX one. So all I did was take the CX bushing, and put the Integra bushing around it and use the Integra bracket to tighten it down.
Oh, and get an alignment. Also, you might wanna get new tie rod boots and cotter pins while you're at it. Couldn't hurt.
Just pulled my A/C and P/S and cruise control (for the hell of it) a couple of weeks ago. I wished I would have talked to Mike K before doing so. I didn't know I needed the bushings or coupler. They had to be overnighted
, but anyways pull both of those and invest in the Ultra R crank pulley and alternator pulley. Underdrives the system and shaves off an extra 7lbs! My stock crank pulley and alternator pulley combined weighed 8.6lbs. The Ultra R crank pulley and alternator pulley weighed 11oz!!!! Well worth the power. Turn in responce takes a little muscle and the ratio isn't the best in the world but it works well for the most part. Not a pain to drive at all for a daily driver. Good luck man.
