Default h22 or b20/VTEC in 92 ls

I want to do a swap and plan for FI in the future. What do you all think, get the h22 or run a b20/Vtec? I would like to keep prices down and also want to have a reliable engine. Thanks for the help and advice.

you could probably save some money by doing this since you already have half of what you need

Yeah, I'd do B20/VTEC for a couple of reasons. The first is that the setup is just plain cooler, the H22 weighs more and won't bolt straight in, and that stuff is much more available for B series engines.

I didn't think is was possible to swap in a H22 w/o major fabrication to the engine bay and firewall. I could be wrong.

i heard you have to retard like 5 degrees just to get clearence enough so the valves won't hit the pistons, good source.

if u want reliable with less worry get the h22, but for speed, the b20/vtec, tats my opinion, but it also depends on the installation . B20/VTEC more torque!

I personally don't know one shop that will swap a H22A motor into a second gen integra. The shop i work for won't do it. If we did decide to do it, we would charge an arm and leg. Its alot of work, and not worth it. Just get the B20vtec, or a GSR motor. If you want H22A, and it is a good motor, get a 92+ civic, or a 94+ integra. Then it will be a semi-easy swap.

when stock pistons and a vtec head the pistons can hit the valves depending on where the timing is set at. crvtec.com goes into more detail. custom pistons would take care of this problem though cuz they have reliefs for the vtec valves.

Adjusting the timing with the distributor does not affect when the valves open and close. Only adjustable cam gears do that. I have ITR cams in my B20vtec with no problems at all. JUN or Toda cams would require custom pistons, or modification of the stock pistons. You don't have to worry about timing.

I like the LS TEG, but if it's speed your after a 92 Civic Cx gutted hatchback with a 12:5:1 H22 is definately 100% insanely fast

fuka b20, get your ls sleeved to 84mm by Golden Eagle Mfg. for the same price that you paid for the b20 shortblock & have a motor that is 100x stronger & durable.
