Dented Cam ! Need Opinions please, Pics inside.
Just received a set of ITR cams but the intake cam was a bit damaged in the top part.
Do you think that this needs to be fixed before installed (if fixable) or the dent doesn't hurt so much in that position.

Pics suck a bit - camera phone !

That's also the surface that bears all the axial load on the cam, keeping it from sliding back and forth. A thrust bearing if you will. Shaped like that, it's more like a cheese grater for the head. It's also a stress riser, as well as an indication that they haven't been treated very nicely, as Max said.
Send them back, it's trouble waiting to happen.

do not use that cam, looks like it was dropped, there could be more stress cracks that you cant see, and like drdisco69 said that chipped piece will cut into your cam caps. Its not wort risking it. I hope your package was insured.
Thats not very nice news guys ! Unfurtunately they where not insured. I examined the cams very well and dont seem to have any cracks on them. Do you think that it can be repaired?
Didnt you read any of the responses?
Clearly the major opinion is that it cant be fixed, I wouldnt take a risk of having it fixed and then have it break on me.

Yeah, even if you put the little piece back in, you still have a stress riser and possibly tiny cracks all over the thing. It will fail, and probably take a lot of stuff with it.

But if you try to weld a piece in where it's missing, then the camshaft will never be perfectly straight again. The heat of welding will warp it. Stress-relieving & re-doing the heat-treating will be more expensive than another camshaft.
