When your driving and you let off the gas for a bit the shifter moves forward quite a bit. When you get back on the gas it moves back. I have no idea where to start looking for this issue. Searching didnt give to many promising leads. Engine mounts? Shifter bushings? I cant honestly say if the motor shifts forward as well. Any ideas what im looking for?

Yeah, since your shifter has direct linkage, you'll see that happening. In contrast, a shifter with cable linkage will be smoother and you wouldn''t see this happening. And like most things, both have their pro's and con's.
If it is hard linkage and not cable it moves with the motor, mine does as well but not more then I'm guessing half an inch. If its more then that it would be worn engine mounts. Easiest way to check those is to pop the hood with the motor running and move the throttle cable with your hand and watch the motor, it should move a Little bit but nothing to extravagant.
Hope that cleared some things up for you.

My motor started doing that worse. I had bad mounts. My motor actually shifted forward enough to pull the shiftlinkage out of the gromet it sits in and it dropped down. Keep an eye on that. If it gets worse you need new mounts. I did hasport mounts all the way around. Good stuff
if its moving more than an eigth of an inch... lok at ur back mount.. or one of the tourqe mounts.... mine barely moves at all.. but when any mount is busted or anything like that it moves alot

a little movement like that, completely normal. If you want it not to wobble so much, get those plastic urethane bushings, and plastic urethane motor mounts. Id take the stock rubber cause it absorbs vibration and is quieter. But yeah, completely normal.
Learn its movement then u can learn how to shift without the clutch, hehe.

fill the old motor mounts with window weld... here's what i did for $15 bucks and it works great... no more engine/shifter movement (or at least it's hardly noticable) and improves acceleration at the same time...

Alright, whats the level of difficulty to change out the motor mounts and the cost? It probably moves about an inch back and forth. Ill move the throttle when the engine is running to check for movment that is unusual.

Well I took her for a spin and it moves about 1/2 an inch maybe a lil bit more. I popped the hood and hit the throttle the motor barely moves. Pretty much a twitch is about it. Probably just a false alarm but my 95 DX didnt do this that I remember.

the engine is not supposed to move much.. open the hood and have a friend look at the engine while you are in the car. Pull up the e-brake and give it some gas, your friend will tell you how much the engine is moving.. my guess is that it is moving quite a bit.
one way to fix this is to buy Energy Suspension motor mount inserts. If you are going to be hard on your car than you need them.
The "window weld" way works pretty good too but is a bit ghetto.. If you decide to do this take the mount right out and let it dry for atleast a couple days!

That's because it's not pushing 2400+lbs of Honda.

Lol no im not going to be pushing my car hard at all its my daily driver. So pull the ebrake and in nuetral hit the gas? Or have itin gear with the clutch in? Whats the difference between that and what I did?

put LOAD on the engine... you dont need to drive the car more than 6" to see how much the engine moves..
so yeah, in gear, and ride the clutch a little. i bet that engine will move quite a bit!

Just by looking at the mounts how do you tell if they are bad? I have a feeling this is normal but if its cheap to fix them and it would help then I may do it.
How much do they typically cost for something for a daily driver, not pushed at all. Is the rear mount the hardest one?

I swaped out the shifter bushing for some Energy Suspension ones and that elimintated my shifter movement. You can pick them up at Summit Racing's web site for around $25.

How far did your shifter move? Mine moves pretty far. When you hit a nice bump it likes to shake. When you brake its shakes alot as well. Im thinking its the rear mount but I dont know how to tell, looking to get quotes on everything (mounts cost, labor etc)

Mine used to also move quite a bit when I hit the throttle and let off. It was very annoying to me. I also picked up some Energy Suspension Shifter Bushings and replaced the stock ones. The probably was virtually gone.

As much as I would like to think that it might be that i dont know. When you let off the gas it pulls forward. Doesnt just move gently, hope ya understand that. Anyone buy OEM mounts, if so how much?
