Default Sold the R...

Bought an Altima, with the V6 and 5 speed.

Got tired of moving my family of 5 around with two cars...

I very much like the replacement car.. Fast (enough ) and discreet, and has lots of toys inside to keep me occupied on long trips. Nowhere near the character and excitement of the R, but then I'm getting more boring as I get older.

If any meets come up here in Vancouver, i'll keep my eyes open. I can always come out as long as you guys don't mind too much having a Lotus tag along ( or god forbid the Cortina..)

Guess I'm a Nissan forum guy now...

Bye folks... Mark

Mark, good luck with the new auto, sounds like a good one.

Although I find the ITR a blast to drive, I'm longing for a luxo-mobile. Something plush, quiet, and doesn't attract unwanted attention.

But I must say, with current gas prices, the ITR is a great bang for the buck...plus it is paid for.

I've always like Nissans' styling. I saw a commercial last evening for the new Altima and R & T claims it's a sub six second car to 60. Impressive.

I've read mags claiming 0-60 in 5.9. Suspension's pretty stiff for a sedan too. Very nice car, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. My buddy loves his.

I Never did figure out how to post pics, and probably never will! The Altima looks like most others. It's an 03, so not an SER, therefore only a 5 speed. This one was $22,000, a new SER was $37,000, so cooler heads prevailed and I bought the low mileage used one. ( it's like new anyway )

While it's no R ( the shifter reminds me of rowing a boat, and the clutch pedal travel is about 10 inches, and there is no heel and toe with the stock pedals ) but the power is fantastic. It's only down 15hp from the SER and I'd have no problem drag racing a stock or mostly stock R, and on the highway I would have my old R for breakfast.

Still, there is no doubt you are driving a 4 dr family sedan when you go around a corner. You wouldn't want to track this car against a Type R unless you live for embarassment. It hangs in ok, but it's pretty heavy and feels it. I drove a few cars including a BMW 5 series, Acura TL and WRX non STI ( what a piece of crap, how anybody can compare a WRX to a Type R for performance is beyond me, I hated the WRX ) The Altima really surprised me ( enough to buy it..).

In a few years we'll get rid of it and get a newer BMW M3, but until then...

i bought an Altima SE-R a few months back for the wifey... car feels solid and is definitly easier to load younglings into... but not a replacement for the R

i bought mine for a hair under 27k but I sell nissans for a living and got the VPP program wich is definitly a gooder deal! thing acclerates past 100 like no other fwd 4 door thats for sure... ive seen mag tests as good as 14.0@100 in the quarter and although it is a boat it handles pretty good for a big car
